Default Escort RS S2 restoration.Underside near finished....

Hi People..
As you can see Im new to PF but never the less I thought I would start a thred on my new S2 ESCORT

This is the 3rd series two I have owned now and love them to bits.
I bought this one fairly cheap with a slight engine knock. Stupidly I thought I would drive it home about 20ish miles but obviously it didnt make it.

the engine is now done and running but I thought I would start a thread as there is still alot to do, and could do with some moral support.

I work full time as a mechanic for Volvo and have two kids so making time for the escort is hard. its taken me a month to get this far.

Let me know what you think. prob not as flash as some of the lads on here but o well.

any way took engine out and head went to work for a strip down and clean. unfortunetly the piston just kissed the inlet valve on number 3 so was no good. was only slightly kinked but would never get a good seat out of it again,
(you will have to excuse my spellin in my thread as I am poor at it.. hence why I ended up a mechanic lol)

I sourced loads of bits locally and found a man with a barn full of bits. I bought a complete engine, magnex ss exhaust. some grooved front discs and pads, and a full front intercooler all for £350 smiles all the way......

I stripped dwn the second hand engine and sent it off to my mates machining company for a quick rebuild.. i.e rings and shells. he gave the bores a hown out (i think that how you spell it lol) the block was in far condition reallly so wasnt to bad. didnt grind the crank just had it polished up.

You gotta remember I didnt wanna spend a fortune atm mo just get it running nice for some fun in the sun. my plans are for a ZVH this winter.

I spent hours on a polisher cleaning up the valves ect.

I gave the rocker cover and cam belt cover to my friend to paint up and I cleaned the rocker bolts all back to chrome in the wire wheel.

I spent all my lunches at work cleaning all the parts up and stripped the sump back for painting. then hamerited it up

car had now been sitting on my drive for 2 weeks like this

I put the discs and pads in while it was there. would of like to have done engine ect on my ramp at work but there was no chance as there is never any room to park on site when customers cars are in.

took block to work ready to put it all together. also had new water pump sitting on my box i forgot to take home.

I decided it would prop be easier to put the block in first on my drive and then build up so I wouldnt have any issues trying to hold it all still when I torqued down the cylinder head.

The rocker cover gaskey you have bought is a Sierra 1.8 CVH item. Better than the cork one, as you can re-use it and, it doesn't go brittle after 3 months and leak all over the exhaust manifold.
