Default St170 hillclimb project

Hi to all,

Been running at Harewood with the following set up :

Spax coilovers

Eibach anti-roll bar kit

Black Diamond drillled/grooved fronts/cheapo drilled/grooved rears

Red Stuff pads

Polybushed front end

Team dynamic 1.2s wheels / marangoni zeta linea 225/35/17's

The engine dyno'd at 155bhp with k & n typhoon and cat-back peco stainless.

I'm looking at moving to throttle bodies, but have bugger all experience with this. Are there any gains to be had with the standard cams? Or is it an "all or nothing" job?

A couple of pics -

Any suggestions much appreciated

The standard cams are fast road cams as standard. If you are going to swap to TB's you will need new managment, not all engine managments can deal with the VVT so you may have to ditch the VVT. The problem with this engine is that the oil pump is weak. When you go down the TB route the power gains increase as you push your rev limit higher with wilder cams. The standard pump is fragile at 8000rpm as likely to let go. Even with billet oil pump ring gear they have been known to let go. Only solution is to go with a dry sump system but you looking at serious money now.
A basic TB setup should see you achieve 200bhp

Thanks. It's all or nothing then! The motor's up at 75k miles. What's likely to need to be replaced before any work, or would it be easier to get a lower miles engine to replace it ?

Car may be for sale later this month depending on finances. Will have to upgrade membership to do so. Looks like a move to single seaters if I can finance it. If not, available cash will go into the engine.

Forgot to mention the TTV Racing flywheel. Not the lightest available, but definate gains.

A couple more pics.

I'll be replacing the last box in exhaust with a custom straight through pipe tomorrow. The full Peco system is fairly quiet, so noise details to follow, but it should still be under 105Dba. Cost will be around Ł80.

Sports cat also ready to fit, so with both these the exhaust should flow much better.

Pics to come - exhaust not sorted this weekend but back in on saturday. Wheels and tyres nicked - twats. So white versions due and toyo t1r's to fit. I'll get some pics up when I get them in. Back at Harewood 4th July so we'll see how the Toyo's compare to Marangoni.

btw - top gear and the stig been at Harewood with the frs 500 and loads of other hot hatches. Videos at the top gear site and it's featured in the new series.

Just got some recaro profi spg's with side mounts but my short-arse wife is 4'10" so will be a while till they're in. Looking for two 3" 6 point harnesses in black if anyone's got a pair lying around.

Tried putting some pics up, but no joy. Any tips on how to get them up?

Managed a 2nd from 14 in the wet on the last day of the season, so the car handles but needs more power - will be at Elvington on 4th Dec for a trackday if anyone's playing out.
