Lol, I have been meaning to join up for a while but other things have cropped up, ive forgot and never got round to doing it its taken what seems an eternity to get it done (and get write up and pics on here thinking of it lol) but the lights there and its just finishing off. Ill find your thread now ive got time see state of yours, ive been there and it'll be done just got to keep going on it

I would recommend a sand blaster but would have to be powerful enough rip through the paint, some from machine mart just bounce off as we found out depends how good your compresser is to. On mine couldnt afford sand blaster and compresser to do it so used sanding discs on angle grinder to clean off most of the paint from the flat areas then a wire brush mounted on drill to get into the hard to reach bits. Problem doing it that way is it can take you anywhere from a week to two week depending on how long you can spend on it and some places you cant quite get. you'd need about 10 wire wheels to do bottom of car so if i were to do it again that way id look at getting a paint stripper to take the paint off first and then blasting over it quickly with wire wheel. Buying a proper sand blaster is probably the way to go but dont fall for false economy with the cheap things, and good luck on doing it its nice to know theres more being put back on the roads

Thank you for the info mate.
Have just enquired to a company who do mobile blasting so if its not too expensive might be worth paying them rather than buying a load of gear that will only be used the once.

no problem, ive been there so happy to try and help thats the way to do it then, If its just a one off its not really worth paying the money for good equipment and the cheaper stuff doesnt work half as well. Just for the hassle of doing it id say thats the way to go what you planning on coating it with underneath?

I have the 3M bag sealer but was not sure if it might be worth the POR-15 first.

Only reason for the 3M was i like the look of it rather than the smooth finish of the POR-15

Im going over the top of the POR-15 with a layer of underbody sealant anyway to get rid of the smooth finish, and that itself is going to be topcoated moonstone underneath so it looks same colour as car. Id recommend the POR stuff, can feel it sets rock solid when it goes on, the silver paint also has bits of metal filler mixed in so it works over badly pitted areas quite well hope all goes well for you on it

Cheers lee, certainly has been a few long nites into the early hours at times but the worst of its over now, just bits of finishing off in places then its off for its respray which is one of the few bits on the car we wont be taking on ourselves. Makes it worth while when looking at the other cars on the forum and work thats gone into them so a high standard to live up to, Cheers for comments and for looking

Cheers everyone for comments and looking been a lot of help from some willing mates along the way helping otherwise would of been an uphill struggle being outside and getting to this stage.
Bit more of an upddate from tonight, On one of the earlier posts ive put ive just got out of hospital after having an op so my mates have taken up reins on car over last few weeks to keep it moving towards being sprayed, the whole floor inside has now been painted in POR-15 and looks a marked improvment on what was there

With it going sunny over last few days had to get a topcoat of primer where the POR-15 had been used as its sensitive to UV light, so under the bonnet and around the windscreen got sprayed first

The sills along the inside of the door and around the lip of the boot and rear quarter windows have also been treated so they where sprayed next while the car was flat

The car was then turned at an angle on the jig and the outside of the sills, under and around the rear the arches and front inner wings where coated

the car was then flipped completley on its side and the bottom sprayed to finish

So paint protected job done and its now up to my mate at bodyshop to flat the car down and add his touch as I want the paint spot on after all this That done only left the inside of the car to spray, before that though had to get the dynomat back on the floor so the car was brought level again, a piece of mat roughly place to begin and then heated up with a heat gun to stick it to the car

Bit more heat to make it soft enough to shape and repeat many times over

Most of the front sections now done so hoping next update will be when insides got a layer of primer over to

aye pal ross has been a godsend as far as projects concerned from letting it be done at his house to the welding his works been spot on. Wouldnt of been able get this far without him thats for sure. I dont think I was flavour of the month with her being pregnant to at the time no its gotta be said, lol. Little ones here now so shes got something keep her occupied at least now

Be at robbos as soon as he gets his unit down near you so you can have a proper butchers at it then. Think your one of the few whos seen the before so the afters a shock compared to how it was. Looking forward to getting it back when like you say robbos worked his magic over it though still think its going to take bout a year build it all back up again, it will get there though, lol

MK2mania - Geeze soz pal not been on for a while so hadnt see message, Made life a lot easier, couldnt of done work to such an extent without it, even held when we cut an entire chassis leg off the back though wouldnt recommend it lol. Top buy

StickerPaul - Who directed you here? lol, the mans that busy at work dont see him at moment, plus he's moved from just up the road to otherside of town. Cheers for looking and comments, Ross is basically my ed off wheeler dealers lol, its good job nothing fazes him anyway

TJRS500 - For doing car youve bought one of the most useful tools you can have, we wouldnt of been able to get the car to half the standard it is now without one of those. As I said to rick himself was our top buy on the project enjoy it

Cheers again everyone else for looking again as its not been updated for a while, been waiting on my mate to spray it but his workload combined with bills dont allow a week out for a single car at the moment which is completlely understandable, I know when its sprayed unlike cars of the past its going to be a bang on job from him

Update with work in meantime coming soon

Ok nearly 8months without update so better go into some explaining here seeing the cars ready for spraying. Basically my mates not ready for spraying it, Was held up moving into his new unit by the building of a wall (previous owner rented out 2 units and knocked dividing wall down) Followed by time to set up everything and money required and because my car isnt an in and out job its waiting for him to have time, was hoping over xmas would be done but due to backlog of work that ended up out aswell. Still nevermind been plenty to be getting on with but was hoping with this update could bring you one newly sprayed car.
Anyway, work between on the car itself has basically consisted of any areas we couldnt get at (like behind the bumpers) while the car was on jig, sand back and give it the por-15 treatment to help protect it, after the car was more or less done decided to work on the running gear, more products bought

And so to get cracking, the whole rear was again taken off the car minus wheels and stripped down into individual parts for ease of cleaning

Can see how rusty it is and I refuse to take chances again while the car is in this state so time to clean these bits up. My mate invested in a sandblaster and first honours went to the swinging arms which you can see being blasted on table behind

Though it makes life a lot easier I wouldnt say its easy, Needs to be refilled 4 times per swinging arm which is case of stopping, brushing up all the sand, siving it 3 times to make sure any larger bits dont clog the nozzle and starting again. After bit of hard work swinging arm came up as so which is mile better to how it had begun

The bushes in each had perished to, so a full set of powerflex bushes was ordered to kit the rear end out

Removing the existing bushes was case of melting the existing ones out the holes

And heres my Ed (ie - Ross) smaking the bushes out the holes and the remains of them

After this my mate just had to do a tiny bit of welding on the inside where rust had taken hold then was case of painting in a rust protective primer until ready to topcoat, note on first picture the link bar which holds the anti roll bar in place in the top right corner of the picture

These links were removed next and new shackles bought to replace the worn ones

Its the bottom link which has had the shackles replaced, note much smaller hole in centre now

The main beam across the back had seen better days, luckily mate kindly donated one in much better condition, still had to be treated the same, instead of using just sandblaster though used a sanding disc to remove the majority of the old paint and rust, just sandblasted the difficult ends

Everything else was blasted rust free

Finally the wheel bearing hubs were done, first job remove existing wheel bearings which had again seen better days then give the carriers a good clean

Carriers where then protected with coat of por-15 and primer and new wheel bearings bought

A quick work with mechanic next door to mates unit and we had permission to use his press to get the bearings in, always remember to use plenty of grease and make sure the bearing is locating square otherwise you run risk of it getting stuck halfway in

And this concludes the first update, shall get some more progress reports on when computer isnt running so slow ;D
