Default focus rs mk1 - updated 21/09/10 just needs paint and mot

bought a new project in january, id been following YOUNGBEN`s thread of the car he was building, when i found out he`d decided to break it after doing most of the hard work i couldnt say no and bought it as complete as i could.

with it already having coilovers and fully polybushed and the beams poder coated is what i was planning anyway so i dropped on with alot of hardwork that had already been done!

right, i bought it from youngben at the beginning of january sometime

HOW I BOUGHT IT!

ben hard at work!

it only needed a couple of bits.... a full engine, wiring loom, gearbox, turbo, rads, chargecooler system, braking system, wheels, dash..e.t.c..
which i just happened to have lying around for the st170 project i had

stripped the engine and box apart, changed the rocker cover and fitted a new clutch release bearing

but its coming along nicely, now got the front end back on

started replacing the dash e.t.c. as ben sold all the flocked stuff...
had to change the full front wiring loom as it had been chopped about abit for stack dash and aftermarket management

just a couple of bits missing from it now

standard brembos, bonnet back on

so as it is now its got fully powder coated/ resealed underside, air con removed, gaz gold coilovers, fully polybushed, braided hoses on order, a few engine mods that should be good for 300bhp

i just plan on taking it upto around 350bhp, if it doesnt make it go faster handle better or stop quicker then it isnt going on!
still need a front upper grill and loads of other silly little parts yet

the plan is to get it built up and running, get it motd, and use it for the summer, then il strip some of it back next winter and finish it off properly

right, think its time for un update..

i bought these carbon fibre fog surrounds too but iv changed my mind about them, going for the standard look so il sell them on

had a word with MONSTER too, for 40 notes he knocked this up for me,

well impressed!!
engraved polished ally with the engraving filled in black

found some of these going cheap on `the bay so picked up a few

few toys for it iv had hanging around for a while..

uprated oil feed with in line filter
forge actuator with blue spring (for running direct)
forge 007p recirc valve

i was looking for a part for 6 months before i found it..
i asked them to wrap it up well, but i didnt ask for a game of pass the parcel!!

can you tell what it is yet??

engine needed a new tenisoner, and from fraud its an rs specific part and was around 150.00 so looked for an alternative!!

found this for less then half trhe price and its a gates one so good quality!!
iv also removed the air con pump so i had to use a 2013 belt from gates, after finding out the standard focus one without aircon DOES NOT FIT

space saver spare and 6 disc headunit i forgot to give to the new owner of the old st170!

got the electrics all sorted and working, immobiler e.t.c. all sorted!

new stack boost gauge and holder for the dash

front end all done ..nearly! just got to fit the front bumper to wing brackets

iv got the brackets (nicely powder coated too, cheers ben ) dont know whats going on with the nuts though!!

my new replacement goodridge hoses with s/s ends arrived after 3 months!!! (ben took his old ones off the car)
as they where the goodridge ones i had to buy some 16mm s/s washers with new hose clips so the hoses sit tight.

the front discs are near new, just covered in surface rust, il sand them down and give them a repaint when i get round to it!!

powerflex intercooler bushes to get rid of that annoying knock everytime the boost comes in!! sending the bracket to get powder coated soon, this was a replacement one as with most of the car, ben sold the other..

easy adjust for the actuator so i can adjust it on the car using spanners, instead of having to burn my fingers and undo the circlip everytime!!
this also gives you fine adjustment of the boost, giving you as little or as much adjustment as you want instead of nearly 1psi on every half turn otherwise!!

some nice solid boost pipes but i cant decide what to do with them as i hate chrome!! iv got a few options i cant decide on.. its either
ceramic coated,
wrapped,
just sprayed black,
or give sand blast them/ scratch them up to give a duller appearance

i was going to wait and save up for a jek 4-1 manifold, but since i want it on the road this year, and i got offered this 3-1 manifold that was already heatwrapped, with a heatshield and both gaskets for a BARGAIN price i couldnt say no :P

will do me unitl winter

the front end is basically done now, just needs a bit of paint and final few things tightening e.t.c.
turning my attention to the back end

new rear bump stops as i want to use the original ford dust covers over the rear coilovers, stop the crap ruining the seals

rear bumper brackets where missing so ordered a couple up

mintex rear pads

ben took the rear calipers that he had smoothed, so i managed to find some original frs delivery milage ones that still had the zinc coat on, and gave them a coat of hammerite

new ford rear discs

rear bearing was knackered on one side so i thought id replace them both for peice of mind
new genuine ford rear hubs & bearing complete, just need to swap the abs ring over

abs ring swapped over, just need to put it all back together now

new powerflex exhaust hangers... just need an exhaust now!!
iv got a decat but i think il be going for a 100cell sportcat soon..

bought some new door pillar trims and rear window triangles, ben had some home made carbon fibre stuff on, was ok but not what i wanted...

how shes standing now!

engine now, just had a couple of pieces out while i was tinkering

il get the mani e.t.c. on soon enough

i need to sort this lot out

i found a set of second hand genuine focus rs rear dampers for the dust covers (finally) as the gaz coilovers dont come with any dust covers on the rear struts

turns out the covers dont fit over the gaz dampars anyway, after 6 months of looking for a pair! suppose i should of measured a set in the first place eh..

so i contacted gaz and they came to the rescue with these!! dont know what theyre actually off but they fit spot on!
so while i was at it i spent some money..

so these:-

plus these :-

equal this :-

the first time its sat on its own four wheels since january! not long now..

manifold on

looking forward to giving the bodywork a big clean up and some paint!!

bled the brakes and clutch today too with this stuff, anybody used it before??

apparently exceeds super dot 4 spec so thought id give it a go

not alot been going on not had the time really..
but got all the interior sorted now, just the A/B/C interior pillar trims i still need to sort, but im going to get these covered in alcantara to match the headlining

although had a little misshap with the boost gauge surround so i need to get this sorted, got a standard dash surround in for now

since the aircon has been fully removed i though id do the job properly and fit a non aircon heated window switch aswell

took the lagging from the manifold as it was getting tatty tbh.

ignore the standard boost hoses, iv sent the metal boost pipes off for powder coating, so meanwhile get hold of some 57mm mocal silicone hose to use as hose joiners for the pipes, should match the mocal inline turbo oil filter iv also got under there

although now im thinking i want it in black to match everything else

on the outside its all in one piece now, just waiting for paint once its mot`d...il get to that in a minute

il wait until i get the rest repainted before i fit my new colour coded grill surround

finally got my full bleflame 100cell motorsport cat and cat back system too!

a pic just to reemind you what shes like underneath

finally took her to my local mot station, just for some pre mot checks over her, drives well, runs and boosts ok, apart from being all over the road with the geometry still needing a set up.
all it needed was the brakes bleeding and a couple of cable ties on the steering rack boots and it should of been job done! so took her home, sorted the problems, then as i reversed back off the drive on full lock disaster struck
the driveshaft popped out the outer cv joint on the n/s and mauled the end of the shaft in the process.
turned out the outer joint has been off at somepoint and a new snap ring had been fitted but was too small for the shaft/ cv joint..

so iv got a replacement shaft on the way, once thats done il try again (its worse then that on the other side)
