Ford GTI alloys Referb project- Fezza
Hi being 17 i wanted some neat tidy alloys so i spent several months finding some none chavy alloys so i thought GTI alloys in gloss white would look good on my fiesta mk4. Being a young mechanic i was tempted to referbish them myself other wise it would be £40 a wheel! so i did. I went to a scrapyard near mine and found these 15" ford gti alloys which got for £40 . They werent in the best condition as the previous owner write car off!
I had never done anything like this before so i took time to get the best possible look.
First i sanded them down to the primer and then used putty to fill in any kerbing and stone ships, ideal. I sanded the putty down once it dried leaving a smooth surface on the alloy.
Next i used halfords halfords filler primer which i though was ok until i used trade primer which has a better finish. i added 4 coats on each alloy leaving 15mins between coats but sanding coats 2-4. I made several mistakes but managed to solve them . At this stage i orderd my paint which was gloss white from halfords , decent stuff if u ask me! One the primer was fully dry as i would recommend aleast aday for them to dry. Finally i could add my paint so i added again 4 coats sanding with wet sand paper coats 2 & 3.
The lacquer was the last stage and added 2 coats on each however sanding between coats is not needed alothough some people have recommended it.
This took me 3 months to finish as i was referbishing them in cold dam weather to begin with so i advice to do this in warm windless conditions and not in your small garage like i did! Ooops.
Before referb began.
Cleaned
Sanded
Putty added
Primed(Made mistake)
Painted & lacquered
Next i found some toyo proxe4's on offer for £28 each got these staright away and got them balanced and new valves. Tyres are 195/50/R15
On fezza(just need centre caps now)
Comments appriciated thanks Fiestafreak92
