Default British Drift Championship Cossie

OK Folks,

To start... pictures will follow shortly but here it is....

I bought a 2.0l Pinto Sierra Hatch to use as a drift car. Cheap and reliable and next to nothing to fuel up for a days sliding. In February 2009 I blew the car up and pushed a conrod or two through the block..... The car had got 156K on the clock!

Anyway, I went to ABC Motorsport who were under new management and secured a sponsorship deal and thats where we really begin. Full cosworth conversion has been carried out including:

Now added to the list that they supplied

Cosworth head with 205 block.
T3 turbo, 4x4 manifold for better throttle response
4x4 intercooler
Collins -31 Actuator
Full stainless Race built exhaust (side exit)
Group A ignition modual/coil
Group A head Gasket
Group A / Kavelar timing belt
Green 803 injectors and chip
3 Bar Map Sensor
Baily Oil Catch tank

T5 gearbox now with burton supplied clutch

Exterior is Matt black and Electric Monza blue
Signwritten
17" alloys (brands depending on which ones have legal tyres)
Granada Cosworth V6 callipers

Quick release and lock handbrake

"and a lot of welded patches and new sills!!!"

On the rollers on its first run it produced 282bhp to the wheels on about 8psi boost

Following this on its first outing the conrod bolts came loose, chewing up the crank, breaking a conrod and damaging the block and sump, valves, oil feed pipe and head.

"EDITED - REMOVED for the former ABC Motorsports"

Anyway,

Now I have bought some new parts.... crank, sump, block, Pistons and Rods, ARP bolts, and having the above head gasket and cam belts fitted. Oh, dont forget new barings.

Also has a new head supplied and fitted!!!!

It will be going into have a roll cage fitted soon and then thats it done.....

I will post updates etc when I can.... pictures to follow.... And any help or advice, welcome.

I am now having an independant mechanic / cossie specialist rebuild the engine so lets hope I have better luck this year!!!

Now in talks with a cosworth racing team located in West Sussex...

Default iiiaaaaannnn!!!!

hello ian its pete at old abc, id like to let you know that if a con rod was left loose u would have known about it as soon as the engine started, but it had been on the rollers and taken out many times before by us and by you, and you yourself told me you were flat out at 120 or more when it let go, give me a call m8 an please remove the bad bits as it makes the compny look bad its just unfortunate that the con rod let go as that does happen especialy when your bouncing it of the rev limiter goin sideways!! 07765 616267as you know it was perfect and set up on the rollers when you left, cheers bud.

Pete, with all due respect.. I tried calling you when it happened... it was on the cars first outing and I had been at a good speed earlier but not when it happened.... As for the rollers, if I remember rightly you were not happy with its output and could not work out why it was not producing more power with the supporting mods that I had. I would have loved you to sort it out, I even offered more money but you guys just went quiet and fecked off!!!

Throwing a con rod does appear common so I will give you guys that one.. however, I had to have the block machined as I was told it was from an accident damaged are and was not straight, but twisted which contributed to the problem. The head had been welded with standard weld in the past on the waterways and was damaged beyond repair....

I did not knock you as a person or a mechanic, but as a firm and a sponsor ABC stinks mate. We always got on well but then you went quiet following the move. Now I am left with a Ł2000 bill for another engine, no BDC licence as I had to save up to get the work done and ABC cleared off without helping and now I am totally unsupported again in terms of a mechanics sponsorship.

I dont think Mark realised how much advertising and possible revenue my car could have brought in for him, so instead I am in negotiations with a Cosworth Racing team in West Sussex for my future sponsorship..

PS.. That post was tame... I edited it after I originally posted it. I will revise it again.. but just for your benefit, not for South Coast Performance formerly ABC Motorsports!

If you want to help and clear South Coasts name, then please PM me and we can work something out. The car is still sign written up so its possible to save things, but some input would be good, and thats only if this new company decline my offers.

good skills... which I currently don't have apparently!! but will have by next year!

All the spec and guidelines are available by doing a search for the BDC official website. I wont post it here as some sites get funny about links to other forums etc.

Basically, you need a RWD car, a good power band, some sliding skills and away you go. As you improve you will need to set your car for the track, coilovers and cambers, steering angle mods, cage, FIA seats etc etc.. thats the point I am now working at!

I intended to get a BDC Licence for 2010 season but missed out on the 3 qualifiers as the cars engine did not even hold up to road driving.

Pete,

As always... thanks.

Got some running issues with the new engine but sure i will get it resolved. Got a cam tapping noise.. I have posted in technical for advice.

A lot of my parts have now come from XPower Engines which is run by a guy who worked for Mountune, so this time round I am on the ball. Budget is still tight but I am calling in deals etc....

I will give you a call if I get stuck but any advice on cam noise would be appreciated.

Next event is Norfolk Arena on Sunday 9th May then at Arena Essex on 5th June. Currently drifting a 320i E36 only cos the engine is not running in the cossie. Looking to go Jap next year if I keep having these issues...! I am good enough to complete at semi pro or Pro level and the car keeps letting me down.

I have another Supra on order from Jap to as I am so used to going dori with them I may use that next year.... lets see what happens.

The arch kit is Veilside from a Toyota Supra. I own an original set of Veilside moulds and so adapted a set of over fenders to fit.

The car is tatty in the flesh and the paint job is home done..... don't get exceited about it....!!!

But as a track car, it does not really matter what it looks like.. and yes, it will be up for sale probably in December once I ahve qualified for BDC 2011... then the funds would pay to finish off my second Supra project! 1st one is a show car.... hence I want to get another as I know the car inside, out and "sideways"!!! Price would be about Ł3k as it stands just to cover the engine and running gear... but thats just a guess...... bare in mind I spent over Ł2K with ABC and another Ł2.5K on new parts for the essential rebuild!

Shall I start a "For Sale Countdown" of 7 months and counting??? lol

It should have Newman cams in it within a couple of month, with custom profile to suit my drifting style as part of a 100% sponsorship deal.... i.e no cost to me so I wont put the cost onto the car!.....

So you're doing lots of mods to the Sierra but intend to sell it as soon as you get licensed for the 2011 season?! Why not just get the car you're actually going to use sorted?

Because I have spent too much money on the cosworth now so cant afford to swap over just yet. I was committed to the YB last year and was hoping it would be the way forward as cosworth were sponsoring the Eurpean Drift Championships, and I thought I would get noticed.

After the engine went bang on its first road trip and did not make it to the track I had concerns but once you have sent Ł2.5K on a YB conversion, and then for it to be worth anything you have to fix it costing another Ł2K+ for the car to ever be worth anything I was kinda screwed....

My regret was going YB in the first place! So, I intend to build it to a reasonable spec and then sell it.... Then buy a car that will take the redline abuse 8 hours a day for 2 days without a blip with a 321bhp starting bench...

That is, unless I can get this racing team on board... if the maintainance is free or cheaper than trade, then I may stick with it.... who knows what the future holds......

Money talks!

Right,

New followers and cam barings arrived today...... hoping that will fix the tapping/knocking noise I have discussed....

Anyone around Surrey who fancies fitting them for me?? I hate playing with YB timing belts!! And to make things worse I am supposed to be racing it on Sunday but leave home tomorrow at 4pm....!!!

Right,

Thanks to everyone that has helped with this previous issue with ym engine not running right....

I had the car out yesterday for the first time on the track and boy.... what a car now....

I was taking part in the Open Drift Championship qualifier and although I did not qualify due to a few spin outs I had a great day, I had by far the fastest car there and had many twinning opportunityies with a few skylines and killed them off the line, down the straights and left them in a wake of tyre smoke on the straights!!!

I will try to upload some vids onto YouTube and post the link here later.

I have seriously got to stiffen the car up and get more steering angle etc.... if anyone deals in suspension and fancies sponsoring an up and coming drifter please let me know.... cos I am skint but need the car sorted!!!!

It was good fun...... first outing in a year in that car so there were lots of spins and a few close calls and a couple of rubs when twinning!

But it was great fun.

At Arena Essex on the 5th June for the next event...... but I never do well at Arena as I always worry about the armco barriers! They are unforgiving if you make a mistake!

I will post up some video's when I get my Camera/PC link sorted out.

As for pictures... its hard to take photo's when your driving the car.... and if I had got pictures of me sideways... then you would only see my front end from where the photographer was standing.... and where's the fun in that!

Still struggling with the video!!

To add to my build however, I have just bought some Gaz Coilovers and waiting to pick up a rear strut brace.

With my steering lock increased, and an adjustable ride height and damping I should be well sorted.... Just looking for a roll cage now!

Right folks... Needs must and my drifting looks like its taking some time out. I am letting my car go for those that may be interested. Its advertised on driftworks as I am not a premium member on here yet. I am not permitted to advertise it as "for sale" therefore I would ask that expressions of interest be passed to me via PM and full spec is available on DW or via email.

Since the mods above I have fitted Gaz Gold Coilovers, Adjustable TCA's and ordered compression struts. Also have lots of spares and more upgrade parts sitting here that I ahve not yet fitted. However... the T3 is in need of replacement over the next few hundred miles I would say as its starting to smoke when cold..
