the unloved project
Hi
Never put one of these threads up before and wanted to have a go. After recently welcoming my little lad into the world, we were skint and couldn't really afford a decent car. I have an old E36 run-a-round, but wanted some sort of crazy project.
My christmas present was an old and rusty P reg fiesta mk4 1.3. with no tax or MOT, bought for next to nothing. Having taken inspiration from the likes of Sunny Kahlsa, Luca and others, and having extensively researched Zetec Turbo's and other engines, I feel ready to set out on my mental project.
My technical know-how is all self taught with random bits of help along the way, and this is my story. My basic plans are a stripped shell, poly bushed coil-over suspension of some sort, Zetec Turbo engine or another high horsepower equivalent, and a sleeper paint job.
To date the car has been fully serviced, taxed, MOT'd, had new bulbs all round and some new wiper blades.

Cheers for the comments
Its a 5 door for something a bit different, I've not seen many of them. The heater has stopped working so I bought a heater control valve today and stuck it in.

Looking into engine swaps at the minute, have washed the car and cleaned all the inside up. Am in the process of sorting out getting a new heater switch/dial thingy. Also looking into getting the rust on the back arch sorted out and getting all the chips and scratches touched in. Also am ready to order suspension.

I had a Focus that was a project for years and it got finished but I got fed up and sold it, so I'm trying to move this one along and not dawdle

Quick update
Looking into engine swaps at the minute, have washed the car and cleaned all the inside up. Am in the process of sorting out some speakers for the rear parcel shelf and getting a new heater switch/dial thingy. Also looking into getting the rust on the back arch sorted out and getting all the chips and scratches touched in until the respray comes.
Also am ready to order suspension, get some wheels and a rev counter. Also replacing interior seats and back bench

Ok, I've ordered an aftermarket Rev Counter to install and some Puma 1.7 calipers. I'm going to put Puma 1.7 brakes on to help the car stop better, and once the calipers show up I'm gonna get some fast road disks and pads.
Also getting the rust on the back arch sorted, the key mark sprayed in, and the next items to be ordered are lowering springs, puma disks and pads.

Puma Calipers arrived today, 240mm. The Pots on the calipers are a lot bigger than the original calipers are, plus the set up uses vented disks and better pads, so it should be quite good. I'm ordering some disks and pads next week, and my rev counter should be here by saturday.
I realised yesterday that if I'd have bought phase 2 calipers I could have run 260mm disks, but thinking about it, I'm glad I stuck with the 240mm stuff because I know its gonna fit. I think for this bit of the project its gonna be better to gather wheels, calipers, disks, pads and springs and just fit everything in one go over a weekend.
On the engine front, a V6 will mate to the gearbox, but the wiring is horrendus, I'd have to hack up the bulk head to get it to fit, and there's a lot more tuning stuff out there for the Zetec. I can see why not many people have done this conversion So, its now narrowed down to a Puma Engine 1.7 or a 2.0 zetec. Still deciding what the best routes gonna be for me, any ideas welcome.

Don't fit the Mondeo V6 to it. First of all, it's ALOT of work. Secondly, it would absolutely destroy the handling as the nose will be very heavy, and would most likely suffer from chronic understeer.

I'm not sure if a zetec turbo is going to be a bit much for me. I'm just looking into whats involved now properly and seeing if I can get some parts. But I think it'll end up being a zetec on throttle bodies and cams.

ok, puma 1.7 pads have turned up, disks are on there way. Rev counter going in shortly and have had a quote of Ł230 to sort the arch rust and spraying out etc. So next month I might try and scrape some cash together to get the rust sorted.

After the end of next week I'm taking the car off the road to start stripping it down. My plan is to try and finish for next summer some time, though knowing me it will over run! Power plant choice has been settled on a black top 2.0 with fresh engine management. I've looked into a kit from the KA rally cup but the power gains are minimal for the money. I'm going to lay the car up in the garage and take it to bits, take all the interior out and the engine out.
The rust and paint still need sorting, but after being quoted daft money from a local body shop that I can't afford I'm not really sure what the answers going to be.

Also getting the rust on the back arch sorted, the key mark sprayed in, and hopefully the bumpers sprayed the same colour as the car for now so that it looks a bit more presentable. The next items to be ordered are some wheels, lowering springs, puma disks and pads, and going to look into a decent interior.
Here's some pictures of the car now its been cleaned up a bit more, it still looks a shed, but its getting there gradually.

Ok, just thought I'd stick a quick update up. I've stripped most of the interior from the front seats back, would like to put brakes and suspension on soon!

Engine searching has begun! Am planning on getting K and N and a good exhaust and get it mapped and setup. Also, stripping the car has nearly finished and I'm ready to fit brakes and new suspension (Gmax 40mm lowering springs).

I'm so scared about doing all of this by myself, but I have to. I'm sure I can. I've accumulated some bits and pieces from ebay that were cheap.
