Mk1 sierra v8 track car
i will be starting my track car project very soon, just have to get the donor camaro road legal so i can take the plate off, then pull the engine out.
Quick spec is;
Base model mk1 (1982) non sunroof shell
5.0 chevy v8 (4 barrel holley, comp cam, msd ignition)
supra 5 speed manual with bell housing to suit v8
909 bilstein coilovers
rose jointed rear beam
330mm 4 pot ap's
6 point cage
cobra monaco buckets
plastic windows
Should be ready for ppc in the park in may.

Well, the only progress has been to secure a trailer to transport the car. I thought i would be able to insure the donor camaro on my trade policy, but they won't have it, so i am awaiting quotes on a classic policy, then once the plate is off, i can relieve the donor car of it's 5.0 v8 to put in the sierra, then it's game on.
I initially set my target to be PPC in the park, but it falls on my grandma's 80th, so i won't be going.
I can't see any big problems with the conversion as the camaro has a rear bowl sump, so should fit the sierra o.k.

Ahh, insureres, wonderful people - not. Seems the way with car projects - everything takes longer (much longer) than planned. Are you using the box that comes out of the camaro too (auto or manual) - I'm at an early stage of fitting either a Northstar V8 (quad cam all alloy 4.6 litre out of a FWD cadillac - but just like a Mondeo Zetec into RWD the sump needs major work, plus the gearbox is a bit of a game - actually finding one in this country - TH700R4 out of a 2.8 litre V6 S10 Blazer or similar). I have got a GM4L80E which is a 500 bhp capable 4 speed electronic control version of the GMTH400 and that does actually fit into a Sierra trans tunnel. 10's of hours making an adaptor plate though . My project is to put it into a Mk 3 Scorpio ex 24v - which I have in the garage - pre Aug 92 (so no cat malarky). It's either that or a 350 Oldsmobile (remarkable similar to the Chevy, but different - over the years I've collected a good collection of parts - steel crank, small chamber heads, headers, intake carb etc, mostly for little money as 'no one hot rods oldsmobiles'.They do, it's just not as common.
Good luck anyway....
Cheers
