Default 2WD Flint Grey Saph Body Resto *now finished - pics added 28/8/10*

Had my saph over 4 years now, it was always nice and straight and looked good with just a couple of rusty scabs in the normal places that needed sorting

I thought it was about time to get the bodywork sorted as i have been slowly collecting all the parts to get it done for ages now

enjoy the pics of the progress so far

ben

Here is a couple of pics of when i first got it a few years back

Now some of it after the strip down had started!

What you cant see in these pics is the rust on the o/s sill below the back door where the floor meets. i knew it was there but it wasn't untill i got the bodykit off that i realised it was so bad.

Here are some of the first pics once she was in the bodyshop.

The rust in the drivers side rear arch turned into a big hole!

There was also a hole in the bootlid around the spoiler fixing points.
Before the spoiler came off there was no sign of rust anywhere here. bit of a crap picture but you get the idea!

No for the bad bit, the sill

Once it had been looked at closer i received a phone call saying it was worse than first thought and a section of the outer sill needed to cut away to fix properly

There was also a hole in the rear panel

I'll let the pictures explain

This was found in the rear arch but the seat belt mounting

Still i was really happy with how it came out, the bloke doing the welding is one of my dads old friends and builds hot rods.

Great job on the sill

New front bumper mount, i sourced a new ford front wing but was told it would be easier to fix than replace

Thats it for the moment.

I'll get some more pics up soon

Here are some more progress pics

Rear panel repaired with number plate surround holes all welded up

Bootlid rust welded up, as i had to drill both the spoiler outer fixing bolts out they took the opportunity to weld some nuts on the inside

The repaired rear arch, im pleased with how well this has come out

Some general pics of her all primered up

Thought i'd take a couple of shots of some other interesting stuff going on up the shop

This used to be a standard ford pop body, all the back panels have been made by hand! American Hotrod anyone? just without the ultra clean workshop!!

This is the welders own car, 1940's pick up (i think) with Jag XJS front and rear suspension and all alloy LS1 V8

Going back on topic, i managed to get all the door mouldings off cleanly, i have brand new mouldings for all doors and one wing but the new ones have a matt finish to them where as the ones that came off the car are quite shiny and i would have to use one of them

Im tempted to put all the originals back on as they are in good nick and will all match?

what do you think?

Rear arch and sill all sorted

O/S front bumper mount all sorted, after seeing this im glad i didnt change the wing

Spoiler mount all sorted now complete with captive nut

Thats it, the next update should be of a fresh flint grey saph!

Im really pleased with how quickly its all happened mate, considering its been it bits in the garage since november!

I do have one new genuine front wing moulding and one pattern but its a slightly different colour to the ford one and probably look shite

Think im stick the originals back on

She's looking good captain!!

Can't believe it's taken as little time as it has!! Pisses me off that mine took 2 months for mine to have a similar amount of work done and it still isn't right!

You want a hand to start fitting her back up on Saturday?

The problem is mate, I didn't pay peanuts.

There's a good chance mine might go matt black tbh.

I doubt mine will be out this year, got too much stuff to do to it and so little time and money!! Yours all done now?

Quick update, the saph is now painted

Not actually seen it myself yet as I have been stuck in London all day but my Dad went up to the shop and took a couple of pics for me

You'll have ignore the quality as they were taken on a crap camera phone, going up there first thing in the morning to check it all over and make sure im happy with it before it comes home, i'll take some decent photos at the same time
