Default Building a new race car

Thanks to Luke at Enhanced Performance for being busy over Christmas building this up. Had a few rusty holes patched up and lots of blue paint on its underside. Will be a racecar by March. Just need to put some more money into bits and pieces. Loom is done, diff, box, prop are reconned and fitted. Rear beam is on solid poly bushes and powdercoated. Gaz Gold coilovers are on. Brake master cylinders and lines are in. Engine will go in soon with small alternator, new rad and hoses, T3 turbo with restrictor. Need fuel tank, some fittings and it shouldn't be too long til we can test.

The yellow shell that I used in 2009 has been stripped and sold. All the good bits from that car are going into the blue one.

Here's how the yellow car ended up:

It was a pale blue 1.8LX Sapphire I think before it became a race shell. It's not a Cossie shell. The shell was done properly - not by me - it has air jack turrets and a really nice weld in cage.

Wedgewood blue is a good description. I've been calling it gay sailor boy blue and biddy blue.

Never mind the colour, it looks like it will produce the goods. The cage looks like it will make the car really rigid. Why did you change from the yellow one?

Standard rear beam geometry? Is that a function of the rules or a budgetary constraint?

Yellow shell was old, battered, had a bolt in cage and needed a lot. The new shell is a good base for a proper race car.

And yes, standard rear beam because the regulations for my series say I cannot modify the suspension pick-up points. Beam is mounted in rock hard poly mounts.

I would love a three door shell and if a good one came up I'd have it. The Sapph is a better race car because of it being less prescious so less need to worry about rare trim pieces and panels when it's on circuit.

First race is Brands Hatch 27/28 March - not sure if it's Saturday or Sunday yet. Pre-94 saloon car series - TTRS. www.racingsaloons.com

Looks good.

When you say you cannot modify the pickups does that mean shell modifications or the actual arms ?

Both. Beam and arms must be standard mounting. Can change rubber bushes to poly but not metal. Can't use adjustable TCAs. Also, brakes must fit inside 15" alloys.

The emphasis of the series is on sensible budget racing.

It's great fun and the grids are full:

The club I race in has two series running - one is the pre-94 touring car series that I race in, the other is a production BMW series for E30s 318 and 320s. The BMWs also race in our series as well as their own.

The picture is misleading - it was a handicap race. I started 2nd on the grid but was actually minus 1 lap at the start so had to unlap myself. Think I finished about 17th. I shot off with the Jag and we had a good race for about five laps until I was caught by some of the faster cars like the white and yellow Golf (which is damn quick!)

Not very competitive in the yellow Sierra but I hope I'll be better in the blue car as it'll be better in some ways and the suspension set-up should now be about right. I still need to learn to drive properly

How much are the race fees? I'm committed to TTRS this year but always interested in a new series. I guess if it's through the CTCRC it'll be expensive.
