Specially at the rear but also the front end and the place on the bottom in front of the seats was already very rusty. Together whit the fact that I like the MK 3 more I decided to take it apart.
Sorry for that but I hope you understand

Hi Edwin,

lol everyone is telling you that it was a shame to take the 3i apart

It's not a shame at all. I've put a lot of money in the car but it was worth every penny. It would be useless to put another big amount of money in the car if you have a better chassis to put the engine in. And with selling some parts you can make good money aswell

The heart of the car will live on

That was watt I thought also.
I sold a lot of parts and kept the engine and some things I can use for the track car.
But didn’t want the people to get mad about it.

Default Don't know what to do

Don't know what to do about the rear suspension
Does anybody here has some experience whit the rear parallel transverse and trailing arms??
I read some articles about it where the discussed about to keep on one side the normal polyurethane busses because else the car gets very nervous on bumpy tracks.
I don’t know if this will also happen on a circuit.
So if anybody drives whit it please let me know how you like or disliked them.

Nice new project Edwin...

I know from the past you've had some serious cars, so this also will be one serious car

Shame about the original dutch 3i IMO, I would put back an original engine back in the car, and then sell it...

Hi Edwin,

Nice track car you're building there.
I'll be looking at your thread closely as my s2 zetec turbo needs some handling improvements.
good luck with the build.

Default XR3 I breakdown

Well the chassis wasn’t good enough to spend any more money or time on it.
So I don't think its a shame that a dismantled the car.

And because the ex owner also agreed on that I sleep wel

Default Always worse than you are hoping

When you see some rust you always hope it will not be that bad.
But you know already that you have to cut and weld more than you like.
I started today again after some very busy weeks and

Tried to upload some pictures but somehow it is not working??
I copy the IMG file but see a red cross

Also made some progress on cleaning and painting the rear hup, and cleaned the rear calliper

You have to copy the complete url from the image. In this case: http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy26/kaapstander/Escort%20MK%203%20Track%20car/DSCF3051.jpg

When you want to view the image on a board like this, put the IMG tags around the complete url. So you start with [IMG] then your url and after the url you end with [/IMG]

I hope its clear

I also looked for the trailing arms, but i'm waiting with them. I don't want to spend the money on that right now. Why was your S1 handeling so bad? was it on normal suspension etc?

I'm building a S2 trackcar at the moment

I'm building a S2 trackcar at the moment

I looked for the trailing arms but and the parallel transverse arms and decided to go make them myself.
I will make them when the car is by the paints shop but already ordered the rose joints and some other parts for it.

The problem with the S 1 was that it had a enormous torque and when you hit the throttle you never knew if the car was going right or left. specially on the normal road whit al the rills in it. On the track you had less problems because the track is with less rills.
But even there is was an dangerous car. I build it by Wouter Bollen en even he was afraid of it. After the first test drive we looked at each other and said that nobody but us should drive this car.

We tried several kinds of suspension from full Koni adjustable until shortened Bilstein, but never solved the problem completely. And also on this car I made some adjustable trailing arms. I made them from the original and just made some left and right tread on it
From watt I read and know about the trailing arms and parallel transverse arms is that on rally cars the keep on one side the PU bushes.
But because I build the car just for the track I will make it all complete whit the rose joints. And this car will have full adjustable coilovers as shocks

What kind of torque did it have on what engine?

My s2 has about 400nm and i'm not having so much problems unlike you did.

Default Amount of torqy

Well I don’t know how much it was, but destroyed a gearbox very fast
And when you hit the gas in 3th gear the only thing you get on the road where two black stripes caused by wheel spin.
And I know that the problems I had also appeared by some S1 Group A rally cars

So nice for you that you don't have that problem, maybe its caused by that you have a different setup at the front in a S 2 than a S 1

nice project keep the photo's coming I also started with my original white RS1600i this year. But the body you have was this a S1 or just an 1.6 cvh body? Because of the front struts have 2 bolts per each side

Sounds like some serious power then..
Shame you don't know the power , was just wondering at what level such things start happening not to offend you or something.
And you're right it's not the same front setup.

Good luck with your current car

Hello,

Its just a body from a early escort 80 same as RS 1600 I
The later one's like the S 1 have different front struts.
I still looking for a registration of a XR 3 or RS 1600 I to match the chassis

Hello Gregor,

You were not offending me at al .
Looked at you're project and I'm quit inpressed to see the building of the engine.
Try to go for some nice power without the turbo. But with 2.0 bottem end of the zetec and the original RS 1600 I head.
I dident build this one myself but going to start with this engine in the trackcar.
Later on I will see wat happens, and if I build a complete new one myself or maby change it in to a focus RS engine.

Wil see first things first so first the chassis.

Default Did some wokr again

Well no time for a long time to work on the car.
With 3 little kids there is not much time left for hobby's
But today was a day to clean the garage and do some work on the car.

I painted one of the rear callipers and rear hub and fixed it together so I could measure something to start building the rear trailing arms etc.

Also was trying to get somebody who could weld in the rear chassis end. Because you will see something of it when it is in but could end find.
So thought try it myself and its me how is saying it I’m quit pleased with the result.

Edwin van Asselt is on a distinguished road
Default New rear setup tested and nw rear top mounts welded

Alrighttoday I had some time to work on the car, it is sent going so fast as I hoped but a family is also a lot of work.
Wel I made the last week the new rear setup and some new top mounts.
Today I test fitted it al and welded in the new rear top mounts.
When the cage is out I will weld everything total

So back on it wheels at turn arround in the garage so I can finish the front setup.

Keep going, mate....

It will be a nice car when it's all finished...
Yes, projects and a family most definitely don't go easy together.
The car not have to be done overnight, take your time to do it right...
I will keep an eye on this thread....

Will you visit EFE, then I will say..
