N67 UEW - MK3 Fez RS rep van
not to most's tastes being a van but its a cheap runabout for me and a good base for some future work to it, so lets start from the beginning!
picked the car up from the borders from a lovely couple who had spent a fortune on the car looking after it, even though they only used it just to ferry their dogs up and down for a walk every day.
only pic i have at present which i took on the way back up the road.
soon after running it for a couple weeks, the timing belt snapped thanks to a knackered tensioner coming loose and killing the head.
some pen writing let people know exactly what was wrong!
towed the van back to work and got cracking with it
got inside and started to inspect what else could be improved with it now needing some work... its time to get stuck into the rust and tart it up a bit.
mirror was tigersealed on as it had been broken off, didnt last long!
van partially stripped, time to get it next door to the garage side of the workshop, and get the engine checked out.
safe to say it wasnt going to work again!
notice something missing in the picture below?
heres why!
cam had broke into 3 parts, bent all the valves, took a chunk out of one of the pistons and completely trashed itself... no point rebuilding this so it was robbed of what it could have been (starter, alternator, box, sump and couple other bits) and then scrapped.
new engine from the local scrappies turned out to be a bargain!
brand new clutch, clutch arm and cable, starter and alternator, engine had done 180k but had full ford service history in the van's logbook! bargain at £120 for that and the box!
new engine fitted, time to crack on with the bits i need.
take one fiesta bonnet at £25 with small repair needed
and one full fiesta rs turbo arches and kit to go with the bumpers i had already on - £20 and its the perfect result for a fiesta rs turbo rep van!
will get more pics up later on tonight of more work that i did today on the van.
should be mot'd and taxed start of next year as mot's just ran out, vans solid underneath apart from the rear valance needing replaced, should get that done just after xmas time and then painted as well.
not sure what to do inside with the van yet, but should be sutble enough and looking a bit better than standard!
that's all for now until later tonight when i get more pics uploaded.
cheers
neil

latest purchase for it
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
also got some original Fiesta XR-V decals for the boot, should go nicely with it and something original.
ok after fluffing about changing different colours on the one bonnet, painting the car, not happy, seeing repairs etc still needing done..... back to the drawing board recently, so heres how it was sitting recently with some more things done to it, a lot of back to metal area's for repairs and built up using Mipa fine paste filler, bit more nicer finish than cataloy and easier on small dings etc.
other new parts include this - brand new fiesta rs optional splitter, rarer than rockin horse sh*t, luckily i have a backup one just in case this one gets fookered! lol
new seats yummmmy 8-)
been working on this recently too - sat still for best part of 5-6 months now looking sorry for itself, must do something with this for summer time as well!
thats all for now more tomorrow i reckon with some more work on it, oh and maybe some new alloy preview pics!

nice van that mate keep seeing it there and about crashing with looking at it... whats in it? tdci?
em its the boss's dads just need to sort a metering unit on it and then it will be for sale as far as i know mate. he's lost all interest in it over time. i can certainly ask what he'd want for it to be sold at roughly. its a mk2 injection engine thats in it we just put a new gearbox onto it a couple weeks ago mate.

cheers bud, it should be finished outside by new year hopefully, we finish up on wednesday so i want the shell at least painted by then, need to weld a new rear valance onto the car and sort out some new brackets for the bonnet but other than that its getting pretty spot on now.
solid underneath unlike my last van that i had, it was rotten and ended up in the scrapheap

glenny - was it due to tensioners coming loose a lot with your ones? i was really tempted to put the 1.8td into it but when this came along so cheap i could hardly refuse it.
rizla cheers mate your vans not so shabby either in your pic! think thats the next port of call for me after the mk3, or my mk4 cabs away, is a mk5 van, been wanting to do one of them for a while after i saw some tasty ones at crail a few years back

pics as stated from work done today.
wasnt happy with tailgate so more filling and sanding done today, happy now though!
roof got some as someone had 3 bolt holes in the roof from where a light must have been before (think its an ex bt or water board van cant be sure)
airal in that picture is a secondary one that will be coming out eventually as well, dont like it on the roof and no need for it, so will sort that over time too.
picked up seats today so theyre ready to be bolted/welded onto the fiesta runners and given a good clean
started on rear arches as well, only took one pic but both rear arches are now ready for paint bar a couple small imperfections, even though theyre under the kit i want them pretty much spot on.
found a small hole under the door seal, so flappered that to bare metal and then fibre filled that up today and repaired that just before i went home, and fibrefilled some of the other parts once i hit them with the flapper disc and etch primered them for corrosion protection, rusty sills no more!
found some more pictures of when i picked the van up also to show the difference in how it was before and now and how tidy it was when i picked it up.
all for now, more stuff up tomorrow when im finished work, should hopefully be in primer tomorrow and flattened back ready for painting hopefully tomorrow night or wednesday before we break off for crimbo!

EDIT - more pics tomorrow have been finishing off a 5 turbo at work to be sold on by us so will get more pics tomorrow of the van its about 85% ready for priming and painting now, couple small bits to go back over and finish the roof and nearside door off with, and then prime the repairs maybe the entire van, and then go for a new diamond white look, hopefully something different not seen before, should pull it off good if not then rub down and re-paint again if i dont like it

cheers tom i was lucky enough to see this on ebay, was meant to be £400 with short tax and mot and managed to bargain it down to £200 from stupid little things like the plastics missing, no rear wiper etc etc. miss my old van but this one i aim for it to be a whole lot better and different in its own way.
trying to find a clean mk3 van is getting very hard indeed now up here, not sure how it is down south but up here its a nightmare, about as bad as finding a FRST for sale!

yup full respray in diamond white, im toying with the idea with the spraypainter at work on this..... we resprayed a bmw m3 the other day for a 21 year old gf of one of our customers in a red - orange flip, and the boss said that he'd give me the flip paint on the top coat if i wanted it, if it didnt look right then it'll be painted again... so im thinking that if i paint it white and stick the flip on top it might be a bit too much on the sparkly side, but it might not... can only try though!
if it doesnt look right then it'll just get rubbed down and painted again tbh, but the flip glitter isnt that bright and heavy so it'll just look a bit like a pearl paint if things go how we think it will, something different from the norm but still keeping with the original lines of things if you get me.
p.s. it wont mean its half orange half white, just like a really fine metalflake on top of it, chavvy to some, but with working in a bodyshop its somethign worth trying out when you have 5 litres of top coat sitting about doing nothing!

should have painted it today but ended up finishing and valeting another bloody renault 5 turbo we're selling. left work about 3ish really couldnt be arsed even masking the car up i was pretty p**sed off at work today and bored was NOT the word!
so heres the pictures from the other day i took plus more from today of the car ready for primer on the repairs (might as well do the whole bloody van tbh! lol )
some bits like the roof arial im not happy about, but what can i do... welders broke at work and i aint tigersealing and cataloying that up! lol
will leave it in and maybe incorporate it with something else, or wait and cut the coont to size and have the hole welded at another date.
on a humourous note, the boss thought that the engine rebuild went so well... he did his own "mind controlled" RR on the van and came up with these figures... i think he's lying i could have got another 15% on top of the torque!
thats all until the 28th when the van will be primed and ready for its coat of paint, who knows it might even be painted too if we do a late one!

update - not touched due to being off with the shop closed for holidays, should be back monday.
got my alloys sorted, not what i want permanantly but better than steels... 16" alessio wheels, pics up when im back. also managed to get my xr2i carpet delivered now, and once a few things are sold from the ERST then im sending the dash away to be flocked possibly, anywhere in scotland recommended for it or that does a cracking job and a good price?
