I'm Finding My Feet Here Now
I have recently been sent a message on one of the puma forums by the previous owner of my car - some fantastic insight in to its past.
"314 was gate released from Tickford on 11 Sept 2000. It was the Ford Rallyesport pool car before being loaned to Martin Rowe (the S1600 rally puma driver) and looked after by Peter Beattie (the main FRP guru at Boreham). It was then sold by the Ford Credit scheme to Winslow Ford where the dealer owners wife drove it for a bit before I purchased it from Winslow Ford in 2003 with some warranty remaining. I think I paid Ł12,995 for it with 22k ish miles on back in 2003. I still have a print out of the advert and the invoice I think?
Ford Rallyesport had 2 FRP's, 314 driven by Martin Rowe and 313 which a certain Mr McRae drove around in.
Yeah, I sold the car to Tony at Pumaspeed in Wakefield in early 2009 for about Ł3k. I think he fitted a new clutch, refurbed the wheels, some work to the brakes and some other bits, not sure tho. I was treating myself to a BMW back then but have since moved back to Fords."
So there you have it my car was once owned by Martin Rowe would you fancy that

Haven't sold it mate - its in storage for another couple of month ready to come out for the summer and further work
The letter is what the previous owner sent me informing me of more information relating to the history of the car.
Given the weather today wish I could work on it today.
If I am honest I just can't see me selling it EVER.

Finally received the nuts and bolts from the platers:
Before:
After:
Purchased some piping for the air feed to the air box
Test fit with the original pipe end
Marking up the bumper ready for cutting
The Cut
New replacement bottom grill and cleaned up top grill
Replacement ariel as the old one start to perish
Going to collect the car either sat or sun to bring back home so I can start refitting the front bumper and replace the engine bay bolts. As the nights are lighter I will be jacking up the car and will start to clean up the centre section underside.

Rained today so couldn't collect the car - have however finished tweaking the bumper.
Bending of the registration plate has worked perfectly and hugs the bumper nicely.
Used some tough velcro and is holding well.
Instead of spending Ł30 on a new bonnet catch I stripped and sprayed up the existing one for now:
Also fitted the air duct feed pipe so tomorrow I can line it up with the air box as soon as I refit the bumper:
Collected the head unit so can refit tomorrow.

Funny you should say that I tried to remove the reg plate for when I went to collect the car - my word, its not falling off put it that way.
When it says heavy duty it really is.

When it comes to removing the velcro for when it needs respraying again I will heat it up to melt the glue then should hopefully come of with out causing any damage.

Had three hours this evening and managed to crack on:
Refitted the front bumper and standard splitter (for now)
Connected up the ram air mod
Replaced the after market head unit for the original one:
Seats before and after putting on the new seat covers - Group buy with the FRP owners, thanks Aaron for sorting.
Few final shots
Also purchased some Tax on line - looking forward to a drive tomorrow.

Went to the garage on Saturday to have the tyres replaced - put the new ones on the front and swapped the front to back.
Love the tread pattern
Had a few hours to kill so carried on with the odd engine bay tweak.
Ended up taking the car out on a drive and had a tickle with a S5 - annoyingly I picked up a number of stone chips - ARGH
After taking the car for a good drive (hard drive) there seems to be an issue - there is a worrying engine and gear box movement under acceleration. I have booked it in to the garage on Thursday morning - hopping its just a engine mount or gear box mount, was a shame as the car felt fantastic and the Prada Spec 2 on the rears is a noticeable improvement - back end feels sooooo much tighter. Purchased a De-Cat from Puma Speed today so hopefully it will arrive in time for when I take the car to the garage.

Finally got round to fitting the replacement badges on the rear windows, sun had faded the original ones, so replaced them with a new like for like set:
The 6x8 speakers I ordered from America finally arrived - paid Ł95 in total as UK price is around Ł160+
So in order to replace the rear speakers I had to completely strip the back of the car:
Finally gaining access to the speaker pods:
Fitting the new speakers in place of the old ones - used Dynamat where possible to reduce vibrations:
All finished - ready to go back in:
Actually took longer to strip the boot down than it did to fit the speakers.
Just waiting for the front set of Alpine Type R 6" speakers to fit upfront.
As expected with the Alpine Type R range the speakers sound excellent a significant improvement over the standard speakers.
I have also enquired about having the bonnet sprayed, now that the bumper has been done the stone chips ones on the bonnet stand out like a sore thumb.

More deliveries form the post man, first of the Milteck Decat - I am hoping that it won't make the sound too raspy, and hope it allows a slight increase in flow. Don't want the sound to change much as the car on over run crackles and bangs and sounds fantastic.
Also the replacement speaker for the front door cards arrived , again would have cost around Ł150 bought in the UK but imported they only cost Ł95.
The standard speakers are 6" in size I believe and these are 6.5" I was expecting to have to butcher the door slightly however the speakers came with a spacer which allow them to be a direct fit on to the existing speaker holes.
I was worried about the clearance to the back of the door card but after a quick check all was well and there was plenty of clearance, even allowing movement for the speaker cone.
Again as with the rear door pods dynamat was used to help with unwanted vibrations.
Once the dynamat was in place I screwed on the spacer that can be seen in the following photo:
All fitted ready for the door card to go back on:
Only managed to do the one side this evening, but all went well and only took around a hour and half to complete, really glad I didn't have to hack the door up and the fit is brilliant.
When replacing the door card I used the replacement plastic door pins that I have bought previously as they are for ever snapping and allowing the door to rattle, well worth the few pounds spent on eBay.
Door card refitted and all went back together nicely, tried a sound check and as I was advised on one of the Puma forums I should expect some slight vibrations when using the large 6.5" speaker however I found that you could only hear a slight buzz but that was only when the speaker was being pushed to the limit, so extremely happy with the outcome.
Just to fit the other side now and thats the stereo all sort - apart from needing to purchase the following connector for my iPhone - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKU2630-Fo...item3a86aff1bf Ł79

In all honesty I found the Toyo's an all round better tyre than the Prada's however where the Toyo's where better in the rain, I found much more traction in the dry using the Prada's. As the car is used only in nice weather I opted for the Prada's.

Right well little update, taking car to mates garage on Tuesday next week to sort the exhaust issue. He also has a steam cleaner so will clean the underside of the car as I hope to paint the middle section over the summer months.
The rear callipers and discs are beginning to look a bit dull, so I have made a start at freshening them up some what.
Looking a lot better:
All the wheels need a refurb now but that will have to wait a few months as working on my track car at the moment:
Track car build thread - http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=356913
Other recent purchase is the silver Clio - http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=348885
Made a start on a website as well - http://www.d-taylor-detailer.co.uk

Used friends work ramp this evening and managed to sort out the exhaust, cut it of on the cat so that I could utilise the flange still so that I could use the decat which is the wrong fitment:
Slipped the decat over and refitted the centre section, exhaust has never fitted so well So really happy with the results, there is a slight blow from the exhaust gasket so I am looking for a replacement, have found this one but the price is a joke:
http://pumabuild.com/pumacat/product...roducts_id=262
Might just get a cheap gasket and try and remove the existing bolts, if they snap then I will try and source some others of the likes of eBay, unless anyone can point me in the direction of some replacements.
I also had a look at the rear of the car from where I painted a few years ago, still looking pretty good.
When I go back to sort the blowing out I am hoping to use the heated power washer to clean the underside then I want to start painting the middle section.

Right I have neglected that FRP for to long now and the 15 year anniversary meet is soon at the factory that they where made.
I have found a company called City Powder Coaters who are based in Birmingham and they will strip repair and powder coat wheels for just Ł20 each. I am not expecting miracles however I have seen many decent reviews and lots of lads on the FRP FB page and the Clio Sport FB page say they have had great results.
This has pushed me to get the car up in the air and get the wheels ready in time for the meet. It has also given me the drive to finish off painting the centre section of the underside of the car which I have been talking about doing for a few years now.
Car put in position where it will need to be for a few weeks:
Up she goes after some twoing and frowning with the jack and stands.
Wheels off and centre caps removed, just need to take them to local place to have tyres removed:
Put a lick of paint on the wheel nuts:
Then added some lacquer for shine:
I have added some more layers since taking this photo
A few photos of the brakes and arch, looking really good still, just need a good clean and will look great again as the powder coating looks as fresh as when I had them done a few years ago. I will spray up the edges of the discs and paint the centre sections of the discs to freshen them up as well as re-applying the red and white paint lettering on the wording on the Alcons:
Few photos of the underside, intention is to start jet washing and cleaning up the underside to refresh the paint that I did way back and to clean up the section that I intend to paint.
I have a smell of fuel when throwing the car about especially when I have a full tank and from the stain on the tank it looks like its need dropping to see where it is coming from. Bit of a pain but needs to be addressed.
Indication of the dirt that needs to be cleaned before painting:
Replacement centre caps that I have and some fresh centre badges, I will pick the best four and refit the new badges for when the wheels are returned.
Exhaust removed, will no doubt will clean up with some metal polish.
I have soaked the bolts on the cat section in WD40 I'm hopeful that I can get them off without having to cut them off, I have some replacements which are off a Civic which I am hopefully will be a direct replacement:
In the air so no excuses now.
I have also made contact with a couple of mates who spray for pricing on a few items.
The bare mínimum I would like to get done is the bonnet and the wings, however depending on cost I would like to have the rear arches and 1/4 panels done as well.

Managed to power hose the underside of the car and you can see that the rear has come up rather well, needs a touch up of paint:
Alcons cleaning up nicely, need to touch up the text again but no rush for now.
Arches still pretty fresh:
Underside after clean and a good scrub with hot soapy water:
I removed the rear spats, I never really wanted to have to spray these but there are beginning to fade and if I spray them in satin black then they should still look OEM:

Big amount managed this evening, I have agreed a price with a friend of mine to have the bonnet and wings painted so I set about getting them removed from the car.
Arch lining removed:
Mud flaps removed, the nut are so bloody tight will have to replace them with fresh nuts and bolts.
They should clean up like new, I have a spare pair but don't won't to have to use them until I really need to as I understand the company no longer make this type.
Both arches removed after some swearing and shouting:
So light but very flimsy, could easily bend.
Then it was on to the painting, I have only managed to do one side so far and some of the exhaust tunnel as I ran out of paint
Section left to do still:
Started to spray the spats, not sure how they will fair with stones hitting them but time will tell no doubt.
Lick of paint over the fixing bolts
Gave the Alcon a wiper over, still needs a full clean, also gave the disc edge and face some high temperature silver paint.
Bonnet and wings in the Clio to take to body shop this weekend
Was worried about it fitting in but just about fits, plenty of bubble wrap in there as well for the return trip.
How the car stands at this time, looking rather sorry for itself.
Few after photos of the underside, REALLY happy with how its coming out, should look really good once finished and more importantly protected for years to come.
Rear after a wipe down and re-tocuhed up with paint.
I have order some more paint which is due to arrive on Wednesday and I also purchase some Hammerite Hammered black which I will apply to the suspension and hubs to freshen them up.
Roll on tomorrow.
