You should put the Focus RS arches on. Made a massive difference to Ian's Focos.

Nope, not gonna put RS arches on because there's no need. Adjusted the coilovers enough and trimmed the chassis leg and its perfect, don't really wanna go RS lookalike with this one. No offence to others that have done it, but I just don't wanna go the same route

But as I said, engine has not let go, only the oil pump. That was the knocking sound on cylinder 1 because it sits right underneath it. But touch wood, everything else looks in good shape. But will still uprate a few bits n' pieces as a matter of cause

Already on the mend boyo John Coles is pretty much the master up this end with Cossie's, so he's graciously giving up some of his time with the 3dr to help me build the engine in the next couple of weeks. But you know I can count on you and Wenny matey Its gonna be a mad one!

Very nice car. I remember it on ebay a while ago and wondered where it went. Can I ask how much you paid ? Keep up the good work.

Oh no, after reading this makes me want a rwd focus again. Next month I was about to start my e30 cosworth project as I now have all the bits. I always say to my friends I would change my plans tomorrow if a rolling shell focus cosworth came along.

Update!

Spoke to John earlier and the engine's appart. Cylinders look good as do the pistons, a bit of wear on bearings on number 4. So sending the crank away for a polish and then crack on with putting it back together. Well chuffed so far!

Update!

Freshly honed and painted block, polished crank and skimmed head. As John Coles tells me, I've come off as a bit jammy with the oil pump failure, because the majority of the engine was not damaged...woop woop! So replacing near enough every part anyway as a matter of course, can't wait!

Probably a gearbox rebuild very soon, whine's like a bitch in 4th

I would, but the bodyshop is a few miles away, not gonna push it But yeah, will sort small issues with the bodywork when she's on the road. More concerned with the mechanical bits at the mo, bodywork is easy

Hell yeah Also modified a section on the block to add an alternator drop bracket and John's going to add a boss to the sump for a more accurate oil return for the breather.

Nice new project mate

Bad news about oil pump, but at least not too much damage and already on the mend

Update 3/10/09

John and I did a bit more work on the engine and car today. After stripping the entire head and leaving to soak in a bath of petrol, she was cleaned up and air lined dry before having new seals fitted and the valves lapped. The block had a few bits fitted, but majority of the work will happen mid this week when one or two parts arrive to finish the whole engine off EXCITEMENT!!! So hopefully we'll fit it and start the running in process when I get some time off from work.

Also fitted the bush to the bottom of the steering column, since the steering was a "little" shakey but there's still another part to fit to the column before we're happy.

Crap pics, but you get the jist. Empty engine bay...

Block with alternator drop bracket added...

New engine mounts...

Nah deffo going coilpack bud, John's already got the pack and leads ready for me. Just need a few other little bits. But going to run it in and have a little bit of fun to start with. Also upgrading a few other bits like blanking off the pipe on the rocker cover and welding a boss to the sump to start off with, by fitting a proper oil breather system that works. Alternator drop bracket and various other bits. Hope to be complete mid week

maybe a silly question, but which part of the focus loom is left, ie is the focus ecu still plugged in etc and is the cossie master cylinder wired up.

Yup, 2WD Cossie master cylinder. Management wise, according to Fraser @ Prometheus who did the loom, she's running on a modified Pectel loom for all the usual Cosworth running gear including the Cossie ECU, but it's been adapted to the standard Focus interior loom i.e. lights, brake lights, reverse light etc. and a custom loom for the Stack dash and other dials.

Bottom end all torqued up and ready for the head. But thanks to f*cking Royal Snail, we're missing an oil pump gasket and collets to finish the head. Otherwise it would all be built and ready to fit into the car on Monday

Never mind, still enough excitement left, but deffo this week she'll be up and running....hopefully
