also from looking at the pics you haven't done a continuous seam weld and as stated in MOT regs (section 6, Appendix C 10)
any plating or welding extends to a sound part of a load bearing
member
the repair must appear to be virtually as strong as the original structure
with only continuous seam welding being acceptable for patch repairs
(even if the patch extends beyond the prescribed area). and what you have done is more than a patch repair.

It had all work check because of the amount of work done to make sure it was done correct an passed with no problems what so ever plus its passed mot last 2 years without one priblem what so ever. Your the only one to have a bitch about welding why dont you have good look at other restro's on here that have done same as mine an running big bhp with no problems

Im not one for bitching but you have more or less just give negative comments to the guy since you started replying to his post. How about some thing positive. If its past a VIC check then it must be safe.

as i said at the start it is a nice car and yes you can see a lot of work has gone into it, but i stand by my opinion. as for mot's if the tester cant see the weld he cant fail it.
if i was to do a fwd to rwd i would make the tunnel and mounts, cut the floor to suit and weld in the new panels + add more support to the floor at same time.
i dont know why but cutting out the floor an chassis all in 1 from the sills just seems unsafe to me.

you really need to take a look at some of the other restro's as most people who do cosworth conversions do it same way as mine but who are we to argue with you. Your be forever bitching on everyones restro at this rate

Far from a bodge job! A lot of time and money has gone into this as can be seen. Can't see what cutting corners would achieve when we're talking about this level of workmanship. Impeccable replica mate! Stunning

Only just stumbled onto this, some fantastic work gone into it. Not a fan of the interior colour though

AND, the OCD in me would be going loopy at the roof lining, get the pile running the same direction and don't let anyone touch it

He's not new to fabricating cars and this is bob on!

Lovely car which I was tempted to buy, mod's you've done since owning it are great also, keep up the good work pal.

On a vehicle of integral construction the strength and stiffness of the whole
structure may be seriously affected by any panel being removed or
replaced by a panel of different material.

I no all about stresses an fatigue in metal structure so were are the benefits in cutting a tunnel in the original floorpan and seem welding it in ...?? If you got nothin good to say keep it to your self as wot we do probably don't comply to your college book mate.

I seen this car in the flesh and it's very well done . At the end of the day if it's not cut in the window pillers I can not see a problem my self . I'v got a ford focus with a YB in it witch I had to cut the floor to get it in I'm happy to drive it . Look at 90% of mk1 and mk2 escorts that have a YB in them they all have had the floor cut . But this car had the hole thing put in it so no weak floor that I can see plus it's a very nice car
