engine swop in mk1 mondeo 4x4
Hi all
I have had my mk1 for 5 years and all the time missing the power from my xr4x4 as the mondeo is only a 2 litre I did an exhaust and k&n to increase power but still does not touch the sierra
I have got to the point when I am considering changing cars to get back the power I miss.
It has got to the point where donor cars are affordable eg st24's and my fave the scorpio cosworth so I am seriously considering an engine swop, the trouble is the last swop I did was on the xr2 for an orion engine so straight forward I do not think I could swop the engine myself on the mondeo
What is the best option I love the 4x4 but not the lack of power what swops are possible and what are the costs as a "guesstimate"
I know it would be cheeper to buy a faster car but the 4x4 set up is bliss and I don't want to buy another 20 year old sierra
Thanks for reading even if you can not answer.

The best trick on the RS2000 4x4 is to fit a 2.3 Galaxy engine, it helps to make up for the lack of torque when powering the 4WD system.
The Galaxy engine should bolt to your gearbox I would have thought but I'm not sure on where the starter motor goes on the Mondeo compared to the RS2000 ??
Pic below is a RS2000 4x4 box with a 2.3 Galaxy fitted to it, the Galaxy sump with balancer shafts has been removed and the block machine to take the RS2000 sump.
DON'T use Galaxy cams, inlet or exhaust manifold they are crap, stick to RS2000 parts.
One thing missing in the above pick is the remote oil filter bracket to miss the transfer box, I had to pinch the one from the original RS engine.

Hi good idea galaxys should be cheep for parts will look into it further
does seem a lot of work for just a small increase in engine size I was looking for at least st power as there are mk 1 v6 mondeos with 170 bhp as standard going for £200-400 (whole) and 3 litre scorpios for the same

With RS2000 cams, inlet and exhaust manifold you will see an easy 160bhp with much more torque than the original engine, the engine in the pic made just over 200bhp on throttle bodies.
If you need to know more sign up on http://rs2000-16v.com/ and ask
If the 2.3 sounds like too much work why not do a low pressure turbo conversion on the zetec ?
