the rear wrc set up is made to very high standards with top quality rod ends that imo may be overkill as they are very expensive, but as for the hubs and flanges for the price of the wrc items i really dont think id ever need them for mine being just a serious track car and not seeing the rough terrain your car will encounter on every stage outing, so will be using a custom rear hub to accept a gaz gold front upright and standard cosworth hub flange and bearing, i have ben assured for what i want the car for this will be up to the job and has been proven on past 1 or 2 past cars.

the front tca's, comp struts and adj track rod ends are very heavy duty and custom to my wide track set up and are far from standard quality and strength so no problems there,

i will only compramise on certain things and the suspension/geometry parts are not 1 of them as a failure in this area could be catastrophic for me on track.

i will get some pics etc of parts at a later date once made but as the cost is over 3 times my original budget for the shell and suspension components etc it will be a while yet.

that fair enough if money is the determining factor, the only things i think you will end up replacing real early in the use of your car would be the front diff (even with the thick case) and the Gaz shockers, just for a bit of info, I spoke to Gaz at the autosport show in Jan, and asked them about the possible usage for there dampers, and all i got was fast road really, nothing that tests the damper hard will work with them, my advise for your budget buy used bilsteins.

But for the buget being spent on it there must be more sensible options that can be available to go out tomorrow and still put the same smile on your face

Agree on the GAZ front components though, we always have lots of options for Bilstein cases be it something like a standard front or something more bespoke made up like these we did last month.



No matter what budget you have people will be able to advise from previous experience, be it from a standard Motorcraft unit right upto a Reiger listen to their advice and then comparing this to your budget is like a balancing act to come up with something you want, not what they want

Good luck with it all, but for the costs involved so far its going to be one expensive project

Tony yes there proberly is something that would put a smile on my face but I always loved the jwrc and my next step up was always going to be cosworth powered so this is it, differance this time is the shell with be to such a standard that if I ever come to sell it would be worthy of rallying or rallycross etc and will be worth more than your average home built 4x4 project etc but I totally agree it's going to be shockingly expensive,

there is a set of billies on eBay from tim finch but Im not sure if there suit me? But they are Tarmac spec evidently so maybe il look into them,

and mark as for the front diff I can not afford the step up to ffd price for front diff and mag sump etc although I'd love to, one on eBay for Ł3700 entire set up tho

I didnt want to post it for fear of being seen to put a damper on the project before its started.

As Markk says its life has no place in rallying so its re-sale value is sadly massivly restricted marc

But im sure you wont be selling it before its finished so carry on lol

this is the very reason im rallying an escort cosworth rather than a focus or something else, the one off market has been killed by the Fookin Idiots Abroad,

but, when you enter into a project of this size its for the love of it not the money making afterwards (though it is nice)

Out of curiosity then guys what differs on this compared to the other 4x4 cosworth fiesta that rally out there? I am genuinely interested as I don't know all the INS and outs etc?

And I only look at the money side of it incase I ever got stuck and had to release some funds through the car I'm not building it for a profit etc as I know that would never happen lol

Steve I dont take anything the wrong way so dont worry but I dont ever remember you asking about a bespoke item ?

I didn't even know its bottoming out, we can't modify the inserts that is a set length from Germany so if I did reply then must have presumed you meant that.

The rule changes recently being implemented in the sport Marc thats all.

Its like anyone can build a Group B car, but you wont ever be able to use it so whats the point.

bulkhead mods are one to start with.

there is a way round it with a cat 3 logbook, but the car dimensions must match the dimensions set out. i have them somewhere, and it was all but impossible to make a car to those dimensions, one was 900mm between strut sections in the rear iirc. its three pages long to apply for it

If it has a present motorsport log book (pre 2009) it is ok only until 2012

The only way a Mk6 Fiesta can get a log book today "basically" is to run it as a Mk6 Fiesta

Thats not just picking on Fiesta's you understand Marc but change that make to any brand or model the rule is the same.

Mark keep an eye out for an R&D front diff when i was looking i missed out on a couple for around the 2K mark, Andy G is putting 800bhp through one.

As for buying a car for parts neil it would be the best option but I don't have the 15k sitting there to do it but could if I scrapped the fiesta idea and just run the cosworth which makes sense as it will be half the cost but not what I wanted etc so catch 22 there

no, the insert is fine

the bodies are 30mm longer than Genuine bilsteins, which is where my problem lays

Read above what Mark and Tony have wrote about bulkhead mods now being banned (to an extent). This means a Fiesta can still be used for rallying, as long as it stays FWD.

there is so much more than just bulkhead mods that have been excluded, the cat 3 log book will allow this but there are measurements for the height of the tunnel, the width, and the distance from the floor and from the sills all have to comply, you have to list all your engine components, brake disc make/diameter/thickness, suspension design/make dimensions, its ridiculous really, but this is why they have done it, simply, you must all comply to this approval, or you dont do it. thats the MSA for you.

time for a quick update then people as i keep meaning to but had other things on my mind lately,

peter from MDV will be in touch this week with an exact date for me to drop the car off for work to be started,

due to the high costs its being done in a few stages so first of will be all the shell fab like fitting of jwrc panels and steel arch liners, cage, column & pedal box mounting, sill tubes and seat fitting/positioning, new tunnel and front subframe, flat rear floor and wrc cradle subframe mountings and a whole load more.

i have also collected all the parts that i need to supply mdv apart from shocks as i was going to use gaz but after speaking to a few of the more experianced people on here i am searching for 4 tarmac spec cossie front bilsteins as the mdv wrc rear set up uses a hub converter to take a front upright and standard cosworth hubs to keep costs down as i didnt see the point in wrc hubs for a tarmac track car,

but i will get pictures up soon of some new toys i have aquired for the build including

Tilton 600 series floor mounted pedal box
tilton 76 series master cylinders
tilton 3 in one brake resevoir
cobra evolution pro bucket seat and side mounts
brand new front shafts (not reconditioned)
brand new rear shafts (not reconditioned)
group A 8x18 speedlines
new recon escos steering rack and solid alloy mounts
front and rear hubs and flanges to be stripped and blasted then coated

think thats about it for the moment, will get pics when i get a chance
