My 2wd Sapph story/underside resto/tidy up...**UPDATE 25/06/09**
Hey folks, this is something i've been wanting to do for a long time, finally got round to doing it this winter, almost finished now so thought i would share the pics with you guys.
A short history of the car since i've owned it first, i bought the car in jan 2004 off a friend who'd owned it for 10 years for a good price, the plan was to keep it stage 1 and just give it a bit of tlc, that plan soon went out of the window!
When i first bought it..
The first thing i did was to rebuild the engine around the original 205 block using a .48 t34 and blues, radtech intercooler etc.
In the meantime, i bought a set of super t's, had a full respray, 4 brand new doors, 1 wing, 2 rear wheel arches, 4x4 bonnet, morrettes, AP's, leather etc and the car looked like this...
I was happy for a while until the block cracked so bigger and better was the plan and the engine was rebuilt around a new long studded 200 block, T38, greys etc.
I then decided it was time for a change of wheels and bought a set of 5 spoke Comps and put some brand new amber front and rear lights in and standard headlights on at the same time... (best thing i ever did to it!)
It was then off to msd for my l8 ecu to be fitted, closed loop, wasted spark, live map and anti lag.
Anyway, i was lucky enough last year to have my car featured in Fast Ford mag...

When i took it off the road last october i decided i wanted to tidy up the underneath as i knew there was possibly a bit of welding that needed doing on the osr chassis rail so in january i finally got round to stripping the rear down and i wasnt wrong!!
Anyway, the rot was cut out and repaired...
And i was left with bits everywhere!!
Once that had repaired i set about cleaning underneath..
(bad phone pic)
I then started cleaning and painting bits in the meantime ready to go on..
New tank...

I got the opportunity to buy a more or less brand new stage 2 Adrenaline beam..
Side skirt clips...
I also bought one of nutsrus' 300mm rear brake kits and new calipers from work, also braided hoses..
New rear wheel arch liners..
The clean up continued... when i first bought the car, i thought it was a good idea to brush underseal the underside, i really wish i hadnt now because it was a right ball ache to get off!!
Once it was cleaned, i put 2 coats of white stone chip on the floor followed by 3 coats of smoothrite, which went on suprising well tbh!

Looking good underneath!
I did a similar underside resto on mine a couple of years back
What did you do to the diff if you don't mind me asking? Prep, paint etc?
Cheers!
Neil.

With the diff, i cleaned it best i could using a wire brush attatchment in a drill, then finished it by hand, thinnered it off, 2 coats of etch primer, then used a vw silver aerosol to finish it, put 2 or 3 coats on, cant remember now
I did the same with the gearbox but forgot to take pics before i put it back in!
Also did the same with the fuel lines

It is worth doing but its a much bigger job than you would think, good luck if you decide to do it mate!!
