Nah mate, I'll be in Bollington by Macclesfield, so not really that far from Stoke on Trent. The Focus will be staying home in Wales most of the time though

Warren - you see to know what your doing when it comes to car looms/wiring, is there any chance you could recommend me a decent soldering iron?

fiend theres literally tons on the market. Any 30W iron will be fine for most automotive tasks.

Depends what else you do with it. if you do any fine electronics then a smaller 18w/20W style one would be fine but youd want to swap the tips for general use and accept the fact it will take longer to heat a large item.

Remember to buy a base and sponge and a good quality solder.

maybe but id rather my car was close to hand in a shit hole where i can run at them with an axe or chase after with my tracker than my car being a few hundred miles away where you cant do anything. Plenty of cars get stolen in nice areas.

Done a few more bits and bobs. Ordered some more battery cable so i have a decent quality wire from front to rear as the current one is a bit suspect and the earth is shite.

I also decided to sort the bottom of the car out. its been well undersealed mostly which is good but the chassis rails wernt best protected.

Cleaned up any rusty areas with wire brush then went over the car with kurust everywhere before it all got plenty of paint!! even managed to get under the fuel tank with a long brush! There was no significant rust anywhere which is good!!!

its not the neatest but i dont care as im no bufty. operational not decorational for the underside!!

Will do the cossie bits at a later date, eg props, shafts, beam etc. The beam will just be powdercoated when i eventually uprate it.

Also noticed yet another embossed ford logo on my rally bodywork.

that was right under rear bumper!!

Its good that he used parts from the original ford moulds!! All the copy parts ive seen dont have the logos so at least i can trace the origin of bits.

Had a go at sorting my handbrake out as it had got worse!

It seems to have siezed up through lack of use
bit of hammer attacking and they now work better and at least i have some movement now!!

My discs and pads are quite worn so need to replace them in a few months so methinks i shall get the calipers reconditioned at the same time! Made sure to grease my wheel contact points so they dont stick on as well!!

Decided also to give it a proper clean and clay as some oil had got on body in a few places staining the paint so needed sorting ready for show season!

I was surprised at just how much stuff came off with the clay!!

The car was last clayed and machine polished only a month ago!!! Madness how much stuff builds up!

well it lives again!!!

been having a few issues with the starter motor. Initially thought it was battery going dead (which it was) so replaced that but the problem came back a couple weeks later!!

so looking at the wiring for the boot battery it was pretty obvious the wiring was not thick enough and the battery earth was made from speaker cable LOL!!!

All that has been replaced!
and the problem remained!! :headbang:
and the starter totally died a couple of days later!!

Removed the starter to find out it has been bodged!!

The stud for the power from solenoid to starter has been broken off at some stage and the contact soldered.

Tried resoldering to see if i could get a better connection and connected it to a battery to see but it was hopeless!

So needed a new one!! cossiecrazy managed to source me a new one for a bargain price so have to thank him for that!!

Fitted it and car starts fine now!!

As an aside, the new wiring certainly makes a difference as ive gone from 13.5V charging to 14.1V!! so thats always a good sign.

Luckily all the shell fabrication was done by DJM Pumaspeed just assembled it.

been doing some bufying ready for coombe!

gave it a good clean, polish and wax as i hadnt done that since claying it the other week.

Had to find somewhere under cover to do it because of rain!!!

But a bit of rain doesnt stop me!!! nor does it going dark!! thats what torches are for!!

Will need to give it a light clean tomorrow after the rain and another couple coats of wax ready for saturday morning!!

Cracking update there Warren, the underside looks great now. Just did mine recently, well, I finished it all off earlier this morning, but you tend to feel a little better when its not falling apart from underneath

Fancy selling me your wider rear RL7's???

you should of tagged some of the FRP's, the shinyest one you could find as they would have had a serious sense of humour failure there's some right anally retentive buftys there hence why my car was at back of stand as its not an FRP

Haha wow, first thread that catches my eye after joining here and its this car.or is it. My dad has a 320bhp 2wd cossie puma with carbon kevlar body kit(cant remember which type it is) that he probably started building 6 years ago and finished (well the first version) it 2 years ago. I remember him going to visit the Puma speed guy during the build to get FRP seats etc. Im fairly sure that one was a 4x4 though (). After reading your thread i can see why my dad saved up and paid Gartrac to put the sierra tunnel in and then an auto electrician to make a loom up.

Heres a couple of pics

and this one just because its a good pic of him in his puma and me in my escort

Bit of an update! Been skint over the summer so not done much modifying.

Have changed the oil and filter, new plugs, new leads, distributer cap and rotor arm. Also rebuilt clutch pedal and fitted new clutch cable. Also got the rear wheels balanced.

Then set about sorting new rear brakes! Bought all new pads and discs and very low miles calipers to rebuild.

Stripped down and rebuilt calipers then painted them in primer.

Then used a metal paint topcoat.

Also painted the new discs so i dont get unsightly rust all on the vanes and cured the paint in the oven!!!

And all fitted up with new pads, new brake fluid and plenty of copper grease!

Also tidied up the bonnet grill respraying it with matt rubberised black paint. Built a nice little tent in bin bags after masking so i would get no overspray on the car (grills are bonded onto bonnet).
