Mk3 Escort Cabby, now for sale along with all my ZT bits..
Seen as my last cabby project died of tinworm, I picked this little gem up from rst-g last week
Bodywork wise it looks OK, but the bottom ends shot, so thats my excuse to turbo it
I'm modding the existing block for the oil return as its mint under the head, fitting my S2 crank, rods and pistons and the EFi top end I built for the last cabby. Running it with L8 wasted spark, 3 bar, greens and a Cossie T3
Started work on it tonight with the help of Mark who's soon to be turbo'ed Van has a resto thread on here somewhere
Started by removing the nasty S2 Kit and bumpers that someone had fitted at some stage in its life:
Stuck a mk3 grille on for effect
All is solid as a rock underneath, it looks as though either someone very competent or a bodyshop had fitted the bumpers and kit, as there was some fabbed brackes holding the bumpers on and the old grille was modded quite well, and the kit as a whole was fitted properly. Still looked shit though.
Thats the only rot I found bar a scab on the front wing, so looks as though the mk4 bits actually protected it!!
More to come later in the week, gonna get the body minted up before I start with the motor, and enlist Marks help again for some welding and a blow over
Got a set of S2 arches in Sunburst if anyone wants 'em?
Got a towbar for a cabby too if anyone needs it?

Right, the 'little scab' on the front wing turned into a fuckload of filler and more rust.
So got the rotten wing off (That someone had seam welded on)
Trial fitted the new one and all was good, so front panel off tomorrow and then tackle the rear arch and tidy the sills up and put some paint on it
More tomorrow weather permitting!

Not much progress today, pissing down all day, and i'm not grinding or welding in the garage while there's still fuel lines etc in the engine bay.
So, trial fitted the Front Mount:
Gonna need to sit the Rad 1/2" back and make some pipework up but it'll fit Clears the turbo too, but only just.
Whipped the head off too, Gaz assured me the mileage was genuine (Less then 55k) and judging by the bores he not lying
If the the weather stays shitty, i'll pull the motor out and crack on with building that, otherwise I'm gonna try and get all the metal work done next weekend

Finally doing some work on my car!! cry:
Pulled the front panel off and the other wing:
revealing some grot around the A pillars and along the seam on the inner wing in front of the fuse box. These can be plated though.
Just waiting on a knotted wire wheel to arrive so I can get all the underseal off to make sure all the grot has gone, then crack on with the welding and get the front end fitted, do the rear arch, paint it then finally decide on an engine spec!
Had to trial fit just to see what it'll look like
Engine wise, I've built a CVH for it using the std XR3i block, Crazycage kindly welded an oil return into the sump for me and my XR3I inlet is modded for my greens and cossie TB.
Its always gonna be in the back of my mind that I should have Zetec'd it so it might all be for sale soon the fund an ST170 bottom end with a blacktop head.
No rush for any of that though, gotta make the bodywork sound first

Yeah, you're not wrong mate! I've got married and had a kid since I started this!!!
Spent too long faffing with engines and still cant decide what I want, so I'm just concentrating on getting the car ready
Blacktop turbo with an MTX is looking good right now though
