Excluding the turbo and external wastegate I already had I'll be in for about £350 finished, it would have been more like £300 if I wasn't running two pipes down the car

This mornings work.... removed the backbox and mocked up the pipe to the turbo, I'll get the pipe welded to the t3 flange so I can remove it if necessary.

Also positioned the silencer, sticking out of the boot is a strong look lol

what are you going to do with cooling? From what I understand, you're just recircing a small amount of oil from a seperate tank? The oil feed not only lubricates the shaft and bearing but is responsible for cooling the turbo core, you'll need an oil cooler.

I'm picking up a power steering cooler this week and routing the hoses to it so they're exposed to aid cooling and give me a bit more capacity, the turbo will see far less temperatures than normal as its in the boot. The turbo is also water cooled so I could use a little water pump I have already and a header tank if necessary

On my nova I use a motorcycle rad and an electric water pump on small volume water system to cool the GT35R and it has no problems at all so far.

I use a vw/audi pump, was about 35 quid new IIRC
and a secondhand rad which was about 20 quid

So pennies really in the grand scheme of things.

Pennies compared to a 35r, spendy compared to a cheap garrett lol

I've got an auxillary water pump from an Omega and there's a motorbike dismantlers nearby, they've got this going for a tenner

I've given the frame to someone who can weld properly along with the boost pipes and flanges etc., I'll hopefully get them back next week then do the oil and boost plumbing I need to learn how to weld properly, I'd have done it in no time on my own!

Unfortunately the turbo setup has got to take a back seat for a month or so, I'm down compression on two cylinders so got to change the motor out, will put a 3 litre back in so I'll be up 40bhp without the turbo

The 2.5 will be out today, stripped of all ancillaries, starter, loom etc. ready to go on the 3 litre engine which should be turning up Monday/Tuesday. I've got to re-fit all the ancillaries to the 3 litre, get it back in and put some miles on it ready to drive to FITP on Saturday for the show Sunday, It'll get done but I wish I could get a day off work on it!

All the bits of welding for the turbo stuff that I couldn't do will be coming back from my mate this week at some point so I'll crack on with that after FITP

I have no idea but for now it'll be run on the standard ECU with standard compression so it wont be laggy like a normal turbo car off boost, it'll be the standard N/A engine so won't be different from the way it drives now

10pm with loads of help from my mate and a bit of pizza!

10:05pm, water pump off, looks like the oil cooler is knackered (common problem)

just one or two things to say, if you go from two 1" pipes to one single pipe, the single pipe would need to be 1 1/2" in diameter for the cross sectional area to remain the same, otherwise the air speed will drop like crazy. work out what size single pipe you need, then the radius squared, divide that number by two and then get the square root of that, that will be the radius of the pipe you need two of.
also by having the pipes outside the engine bay, they will cool the air as it passes through, avoiding the need for any intercooler (in theory on low boost anyway!)
hope i've been helpful, and i know you will succeed

...your maths is wrong:

A[single]=2A[twin]=(pi)*(r[single]^2)
A[twin]=((pi)*(r[single]^2))/2 = (pi)*(r[twin]^2)

Therefore,

Sqrt((r[single]^2)/2) = r[twin], quite simply

This is what you've arrived at but have included the working. However, you say diameter, whereas you've actually worked out the radius.

I know what you're saying 2 x 1" pipes is not the same as 1 x 2" pipe, after thinking about it I worked out the volume of 2 x 1" pipes over a metre etc., what I've ended up doing is running a 2" pipe and a 1" pipe with provision for a valve in it, for now, boost will be going down the 2" pipe, if in the future I find I can use more air I'll open up the 1" pipe too, this means I'm not redesigning everything each time I play with the engine, it also allows me to play around with the air as I still don't know what's going to work for the best lol
