RS turbo 6 speed Gearbox project!

been in the process of building a 6 speed standard gearbox for better motorway miles and fuel consumption. Here are a few pics so far!

Would it not be easier to get something like a Vauxhall F28 box and adapt it to fit?

Gears in those are way stronger than in any FWD Ford box.

Yeah pretty much standard casings, custom built gears and shafts. Its a prototype box for a company that it planning on producing them.

forgive me for saying this but I dont think any rs turbo drivers give two shits about fuel consumption and motorway miles, serious abuse is what most of us are about, will the box be any stronger than a normal BC or will it be weaker?

its the later ib5 gearbox, but high ratio 5th gears mean - lower revs @ 50 mph but better top end!

Sorry to sound like a kill joy but the IB5 is a shit box that blows itself to bits at the best of times.

Why would anybody buy this kit when the 6 speed ST170 box has been made to fit many times before?

Agree with Dan

Fit the st170 box far more sophisticated box + if the ratios dont suit you on that, then watch this space

Listen guys this is the prototype, if all works out it will be going down the straight cut route, we all know how crap the standard boxes are but it is another option that should be a straight fit.

or just use an st170 gearbox bolt pattern is the same as any cvh/zetec

he only using the casing not the gears

im sure its easier fit this than start choping ur rs up for a st170 box making brakets ect
