Escort RS Turbo EFI Project II E353 HPC

Fitted the front bumper with no drama's or cutting about needed. Managed to fit it without needing any spacers either.
Not the smartest place I've ever attached the plate, just lost it somewhere along the M3!
Still having problems getting the sump to seal 100% will keep working at it.
202 running in miles notched.
Cheers

Quick update of how its going and a few more pics!
Finally managed to seal the sump gasket. Ended up parting with Ł160 for a genuine ford sump. Used my 7th Payen sump gasket!, with no glue, no sealer, bare, straight up and done about 100 miles with it on and no sump leaks! thank fook for that lol
The only tiny leak now if from the crankshaft seal, flywheel end but will do this when the gearbox next comes off. The main thing is its drivable and can now continue running her in and getting the miles on ready for set up.
Currently the actuator rod is Loooong, no boost lol and she;s running in on 10-40 mineral. Have hit about 500 miles on the engine now so dropped the oil and changed the filter. Changed the coolant as well as lost a fair bit when swapping the pace charge cooler over and fitting the grs I didn't have any anti-freeze to hand at the time so topped up with water and wanted to get the mix right so went 50/50 with longlife pink.
Purchased a tidy RS 4 spoke with S2 boss. Took it back to bare metal, etch primed it and have had it painted in diamond white. Looks pretty smart! Need to get a pic of that.
Had the car laser tracked and is now perfect.
Decided to take the car to a local place to have the underside steamed off as had 20 years worth of oil leak remains plastered everywhere. Few pics of this. Wasn't allowed to get stuck in myself so had to play foreman to the poor bloke doing the do. In fairness he did a good job for me and can now see whats what beneath. Pleased at how solid she still is. Nothing needs welding, just sealing.
After I dried out a couple of plugs she fired straight up but had mullered the tired alternator as tell tale light was on and voltage dropping so today have had it overhauled. New bearings, ,brushes, diode pack and cleaned and polished. All fitted again and running.
Tomorrow is brakes. Overhaul what needs doing, service and fluid change.
After brakes and a few hundred more miles she's ready for setting up
Cheers.

What happened??
Do you mean physically take the filter off and leave what? just the breather pipe with no filter on or do you mean take the hose and filter up the engine bay? Can you explain a bit more, I'm learning!

Thanks for your comments.
Brakes;
Got as far as the front today! Running 2wd cossie brakes with braided lines. Think calipers have seen better days, drivers side 3 of the 4 pistons were seized and passengers side they all were. Think i'm going to buy some recon'd ones.
Is this the only/ best route or can these be obtained new anywhere OR can anyone suggest a suitable upgrade?
Thanks

Brakes are well underway. Hoping to finish them tomorrow.
This is what I had
And this is what arrived this morning
And this is what i did to them!!
The rears were all ok so just serviced them (think they are fairly resent calipers)
I'll fit them tomorrow, flush the fluid and reload. Hoping for a significant improvement on how they were.
Also need to sort this out which felt rough and to be fair I knew was suspect as I heard her moaning during the few miles i've covered in it. No great drama - OSR wheel bearing. Need to MOT it next weeks so just as well sort it while the rear brakes are off.
Cheers

Also, managed to source myself a 4 spoke with horn. Got it painted the same colour as the car as the original black powder coat was tiring. Its growing on me. Pic doesn't really do it justice as it still had masking tape marks all over the leather. Its a pretty mint wheel now.

Bearings sorted, rear brakes sorted. Front calipers are at a local engineering firm getting machined to fit as didn't realise they needed doing doh! All my painting wasted lol. Should be ready by the weekend.
Fitted an aerial today as well. How exciting. Will get pics up tomorrow.

VERY Tidy looking Car, In your last picture however it looks alot like its sitting too high on the front? Maybe a set of coilovers or in true old-skool style Half a spring chop

Taxed it today.
Been quite busy.
Done just under 1000 miles on the engine now and made it to silverstone and back with no dramas
Went to JKM Performance first thing this morning to get her on the rollers to check fueling, timing, and check and set boost.
fueling was a little rich but the car was only running 9psi boost. The custom chip is mapped for 1 bar/ 14.7psi? so this should level out as the boost is increased, perfect.
When looking to set boost two issues came to light which need sorting and so ending the session.
Firstly I found out the actuator is a -34 not a -31 which I thought I had on meaning min boost of 1 bar against my efi ofac mgt which max's out at 1 bar boost, so I need to get a -31. Also it appeared that the wastegate it sticking and only moving about 33% of its potential.
Back home I set about taking the turbo off.. I wasn't bothered as I need to heat wrap the manifold and exhaust so no real biggy. However, bad day on the spanners. I punctured the rad trying to pull the turbo out and sent coolant pissing everywhere. I took the bumper, cooler, fan and rad out and made a real mess. Turbo came out easily though Tonight the rads with a 'rad geek' who will let me know tomorrow if he can recore it. In fairness, she was getting a bit tired so again, wasn't too pissed off.
This is how she's looking this evening...two steps back! lol
Anyway, back to why I was taking the turbo off. Wastgate and actuator. Actuator off, awaiting -31 to arrive. removed wastegate housing and shee was indead stiff and squeeling so I lubed her up and worked it for a few mins. Its now moving freely but I'm not sure if its opening up fully? I don't know what normal looks like in this case. Can you help? I captured how its operating on a video which I'll try and put up. It seems to open freely as far as it can till it hits the exhaust housing. IS THIS NORMAL AND SHE'S WORKING OR IS SHE FOOKED? HELP
Thanks

It is a damn beautyful car however and the stance on the rear is PERFECT in my opinion! I'd literally bring the front down about 20mm to level it out and it's perfect!

Rads been re-cored. Done a good job and cost just over Ł100.
With it all off if gave me chance to wrapped up the hot stuff to assist keeping the cooling under control.
A Collins -31 actuator is on its way tonight from Matt Lewis Motorsport. Top service.
Will be putting it back together tomorrow.
Have booked another rollers session with JKM Performance. Next available session Wednesday 2pm

Actuator arrived as promised
Threads on exhaust studs from the wastegate elbow which fit to the down pipe were starting to strip so eased them out (harder than that sounds!) and treated it to a pair of new ones and some shiney nuts!
Fitted the manifold, turbo and actuator.
Then put the rad and cooler back in.
Now all fitted back up and running. Engine temps are down considerably with the 'new' rad and heat wrapping. Pleased with that.
Roll on wednesday's...Rollers session!
Cheers
