F888TEV Underside and bay paint/resto (New carbon fiber door card inserts)
Well its finally time for me to start a resto thread of my own,
Ive been using passionford for a good couple of years now, its been a massive source of information thats made owning my 2wd saph alot easyer,
One of my fav section of the sight has to be Restorations and Rebuils. its amazing how far people will go to put a shonky old ford's back on the Road,
Anyway less of my life story and time to get on with it........
Right the plan is take the engine out, remove Diff,Box,beam,etc paint the floor and bay, powder coat,then put it all back together ready for the first rs show of the year. Easy
lol
First of this is How Tev looked at 2pm today
As i hasve never done anythin like this before i started the only way i thought was right n stuck the kettle on,
Then worked from the boot forward
i was quite pleasently suprise and found nothing that scared me to much, as you can see the wheel well is starting to rust a little but nothing that cant be fixed
Then on to the back seats
Rear bench removed and again Looks really clean
Just as i had worked up enough sweat to stick the kettle on Rich (xr4x4) turend up to lend a hand

A couple more bolts removed and the car looked like this
And my garage looked like this
Then came the Bit i really wasnt lookin forward to, the removal of the carpet, As you can see from the photos of the car its Quite a clean car, and the floor looks solid from the underside but ive seen it many time on here when people lift carpets to find a car that looks like its from the flintstones
All in all i think ive got away with it quite easy,
The only realy area to worry bout on the passenger side is a slight bit of rust where the seat bolts throught the floor (im told this is a common thing) and a small hole in the passenger foot well
The drivers sides a little worse ive got 2 ares on the transmission tunnel that need a slight bit of attention and 1 area near the drivers door theat need attention now b4 it turns bad,
So all in all the floor looks good
After the another brew the decision was made to remove the dash, the bottom half had alread been removed to get the carpet out so 5 extra srews didnt seam to much extra effort,And the fact that the cars 20 years old, its got 20 years of bodge wirin that needs fixin
after seing this little lot i felt like i had bitten off mre than i could chew, i only wanted to do a small resto not a full rebuild
but due to the size of my garage everthings gotta come out just incase i gotta wield the car,
Anyway after another Brew i made the decision to call it a day, and the fact i need to spend another 2 hours putting bits away in the loft so i could get the car back in the garage,
Please excuse the poor pic quality it turns out i spend all day takin phots with the cam on the wrong setting
althought i do kinda like this pick
(it show i spend more time polishin the car than i do driving it )
anyway weather dependent hopefully their will b more updates tomorrow

nice one mate,got my fingers crossed for ya that you dont find anymore nasty suprises.i took mines to my uncles to get painted and ended up stripping the thing to a shell

ive never seen a man so determind to keep the dash in when i said i need it out to sort the bodges out for wiring lol
but no real good day on it and its not as bad as some later sierras ive owned and seen
if the weathers snow tomorrow and not raining expect to get dragged off the sofa, as we dont actually need teh car out the agarge for the next bit anyhow

looks like your making good progress id of taken the sound deadening off the bulkhead aswell though so you can see how far the rots spread wheres todays update lol ?

Up-date Time
Right time for a update,
Today I started out with the same intentions as yesterday (to do nothing but watch re-runs of top gear on dave and drink coffee) but as the weather was so good i had no excuse,
so After a quick brew i dragged my lazy ass in to the garage,
The plan was to start on the engine bay as i was planning to take the yb lump out tomorrow, but all good plans go out the window
i jacked the rear of the car up with the intention of removing the zorst, but decided while i was there i would remove the rear bakes and calipers
(check out my make shift way of catchin brake fluid
After i had removed the brakes i thought i would remove the rear bumper as its only two bolts and a couple of clips
found a small area of rust but its only surface and its not structural
had a quick look around and as you can see the floor looks good although slightly rusty
Its amazing though just how salt attacks stuff i noticed salt crystals forming on the brake lines,
A couple of bolts and the zorst came out really easy
looks in Good condition considering its been on the car for 5 years (pays to be a buffty fooker at times)
Next on the list was a brew as rich had finally made it out of his pit
While i stuck the kettle on rich removed my inner arch liner,
Cheers fella lol
next up was the fuel tank
What a pain in the ass
The fuel pump/filter cam off a treat
Quick strip down and a session with a wire brush and i end up with this
Now all i have to do is remember how it all goes back together
we moved on to the tank,
The tank strap came off with the usual wd40 and a wiggle, then came the biggest pain in the ass we manage to brake the to shit captive nut things
typical ford, doing things on the cheap
so after Alot of PISSING about Rich came up with a solution
I had the job of usin the hacksaw
draining off the last of the fuel
and finally The tank was free
i was worryed what i would find, kinda thought the tank could b hiding something really nasty but alls good
all in all the back ends in good condition only real area that will need attention is i found a small hole in the passenger chassie legg
nothing that cant b fixed,
A visit from twellsie To collect his new wheels
Then off to the engine bay to stat what i had set out to do in the first place
first to come out was the strut barce, this should have been a simple job but..................... as with everything today it took ages,
Then out came the heat shield (looks like this has seen better days)
The down pipe was next,
What a pain, i very nearly threw my Dummie out of the pram over this,
How can 3 bolts cause so much hassel,
they would not budge, and Trying to get a spanner in to undo the third bolt is impossible, ford must have used a gerbil train in the art of kung-fu,yoga and geometry,
A hell of a lot of skin missing of my knuckles later and i end up with this
and this
At this point i really had had enough
so i called it a day
packed all the bits i had pulled off the car

just got back mate, had a right laff tonight lol
anyhow, yes botch of day but will get the engine ready to drop out next so by the weekend car should be on axle stands in garage with everything else ready to drop

You'll need to source an uprated element and cage it up
