does anyone know if the is a diffrance between a zetec turbo silvertop and a zetec turbo blacktop.

im planing on doing a zetec turbo for my xr2i and im not sure on what 1 to go for,

i have seen many zt silvertops but not that many blacktops.is this because silvertops are more stronger (definaly cheaper to buy).

a zvh has gone out of my head now and am gonna crack on with the zt but i dont know wot 1 to get.

any ideas?

Silver top will go straight in with the right mounts... assuming your xr2i is a mk3.5?

dont think mine is a 3.5,it hsa the older shape wing mirrors so i think it is.

Blacktop won't mate to the cvh gearbox without big mods to the sump

i thought a silvertop would drop straight in any way without any problems.

i know ill have to change the gear box,ill have a look into what ones i could use.

wonder if i could use a s1 rst gearbox or MTX75

hi mate first look at my thread "zetaboostboy area six jwrc fiesta update" the silver top is what i would use for the ease of the engine mounts etc, as for the gearbox i thought all the zetecs had the same bolt pattern so you can use most of the ford fwd gearboxes.i believe that the silver top has beefier bearing caps and are stronger, but the black top has a better flowing head.its all about how much power you want really.my silver top head did 522bhp so its plenty for most people. you can put a black top head on a silver top engine with some work but it would be best to go for a st170 on a silver block as the st170 is by far the best cylinder head, ask ian howell at area six motorsport to do the head if you want big horsepower hope this helps

car so far looks mint mate and im lookin forward to new updates,il keep an eye out engine is lookin sweet.got a big turbo on your hands there mate,bet ur well proud.

im gonna look for a moderate peice of power and i think you have just given me the boost to go for the silvertop,but im gonna keepthe st170 head in mind aswell as ian howell.
