my new winter project!! evo iv
hello all, take a look @my new winter project its a evo iv in absolutly lovely condition! i had to go down to London to collect it and tow it back on my focus with a 16ft trailer, just one thing missing.. engine, transfer box, gearbox, and exhaust, sounds alot but for me fairly easy ! ive already built one evo up from the block up and it ran perfect! so im going to get a full engine from evo,s 4 to 6 and build my own spec, strip it down remove the balance shafts and build with full race bearings , i love building evo,s up cus there so easy to work on and parts or very cheap, the car has everything ready in the engine bay to plug in , it also has a new Clifford g5 cat 1 and a tracker, the guy who i bought it off has just got a new evo x and already has tunned it to 400bhp! forgot to say if i get a evo iv engine the block will be thrown in the skip, as if ya now ya stuff all evo,s from 1 to 4 will at some stage get crankwalk, this is cus mitszy dident design the main bearings correctly and only from 5 onwards they changed the main bearings so all the cranks are the same but the blocks change from evo 5 . oem cranks have seen 700bhp and more and oem pistons will take around 400 its just the rods they are the weak point even tho my mates 6 is running 400bhp on standard rods! he is getting some knorris design drop in rods

not to sure yet pal, depends on what engine i end up with! but what ever i get it will be stripped , power wise i think 320bhp is just a nice amount of power, i drove my mates 6 with 320 then with 400 and thought 320 still felt very quick and also if ya keep it under 400 it should be more reliable, i will be keeping it 2lt tho and going down the stroker route

Hi Andy,
Its Steve with the VI!
The IV looks class mate, immaculate aswell. Like you say, get a V/VI block fired in there. If your going down the 2.3 stroker route mate, 320hp will be nothing, although big money as it'll need forged pistons/rods/stroker crank, a rebore and then other adjoining mods to run efficiently. If your not intending on over 400, id just think about getting a later block, and dropping IX pistons and rods in, should be good for 400/400 and much less money.
Il have pop round over the weekend for a crack pal, got a few new things on the VI now aswell

Like has been said, MR engine internals are generally good for 400/400 (although not much more), so simply dropping an MR lump straight in would be a nice, easy, cost-effective way of achieving a reliable engine. If your considering bigger turbo's, etc for the future though, id stick to your original plan and go the forged route.
