Escort 1.6 zetec upgrade to 2.0 zetec?
Hi,
I'm sure its been asked before but i'm new to the site and i cant find anything.
I have a 1998 Escort with a 1.6 16v zetec engine (silvertop). Unfortunately the power isn't brilliant and I have hit 83,000 miles so no doubt the timing belt needs changing soon which will set me back a bit.
So, I was thinking about replacing the 1.6 for a mondeo 2.0 16v zetec (silvertop) in hope i'll get more horses and possibly skip the timing belt change for a bit.
Any expert advise on how much it will cost to put the new engine in and at what millage do you need to change the timing belt on the 2.0 zetec silvertop?
Thanks for any advice

can use all the original wiring loom, just have to fit the correct ecu, pre pats one, code deep, desk or dewy... and move some wires around in the connector, have to use some things from the 1.6/8 engine like sump, oil pick up pipe and a few other things, well worth it, mines so much fun for what it is!

You need 1.6/1.8 Escort sump, oil pickup pipe. You can use both oil pumps, but with the mondeo one you need to buy short oil filter. Then flywheel from 1.6 because mondeo one is 240mm and dont fit into IB5 gearbox. Then find mondeo mk1 EEC4 ECU and change EPROM from it and fit into your 1.6 ECU (a professional eletrician can do it). Yes and water pump from 1.6 because mondeo one is moving wrong way. Other anciliaries and holders take from 1.6...
MAF, air intake, injectors etc. take from Mondeo. MAF is bigger diameter and dont fit into 1.6 airbox, so need to buy 1.8 one or make your own custom stainless steel with sport filter. If you have EFI aluminium intake manifold, you need to buy escort 1.6 plastic one electrim loom.
