Default Norwegian mallard escort cosworth

This is the car that is ruining my familys economy
Ive had it for about three years, it’s a 93 model and its imported from Germany. When I started to look for an escort I decided to never buy one that was mallard green. I thought that color was very dull. But after a long search, and after inspecting several “mint” escorts, I ended up buying a mallard one after all. And I have never regret it. Today I think its one of the nicest colors for the escort. Especially when they are mint.

This is how it looked like when i first got it

The enginebay didnt look very nice. Just look at those terrible blue parts!!!! But technical it was very good.

The original plan was to keep it as I bought it and don’t start to upgrade or have it in the garage 90% of the year(probably many of you have said the same thing when you’ve bought cossies), but that should turn out to be more difficult then I would have expected. I started to build a sound system. I love music(louder the better) and I had a big system in my last cosworth as well and decided to build one in this also. This is one of the projects that is still in progress, and ill hope its finished during the spring next year. I don’t bother showing pictures of the build because its just testfitted to check the sound and that everything functions properly. Everything is being built in fibreglass and painted and flocked. The entire car is soundproofed. Roof, floor, boot, doors the lot. All the cables is made on measurement and isolated so it wont iterfere with any of the other electronics. Because of all the extra weight ill try to just use light materials such as fibreglass and aluminum.

Some pictures of the stereo how it is today:

Sony XES headunit, 3 sony widescreen, dvd, ps2(hideaway)

Frontsystem. Jbl Gti midbass, midrange and tweeter

Subwoofers. these will get company of two more and will sit where the rearseats are today. Kove Armageddon U15"

Testfitting of amps, processor, crossover and changer. This is just done to test it and to see that everything is working as it should. I have to do everything again beacause of all the changes I keep making all the time. It played around 140Db last year, but that was with one
Kove Armageddon AD4000 on both woofers. Next year there will be four woofers with one amp EACH!!!!

One of the reasons that the rearseats has to go is that its a small car and i having trouble finding place for the 4 woofers and 10 amps that’s going in there. And also several batteries and miles and miles of cables. So it will not be a trackday monster that’s for sure :-(
"All Show, No Go" as they say But decided to do something with the weight/power ratio so i wouldnt be parked by grandmas huyndai on the freeway. As mentioned earlier the enginebay did not look very nice and the engine was getting tired after all those years. So I ordered a new engine from a tuner in Norway, Ø.K maskinering. He was the engine mechanic and engine builder for one of the greatest rallycross drivers in Norway for many years. I contacted him and he seemed very serious and gave me a lot of tip and advices on the engine build. The old engine was delivered and the block was swapped with a fresh one and fitted with wøssner motorsport pistons and new internals. I even got it back before scheduled and I was really happy with that.

Powdercoated block(No turkish shit)

The engine and enginebay did not look any god, in fact it looked pretty bad:

Enginebay cleared, washed and painted, ready for her new engine:

Powdercoated.:

Engine in place:

Then it was time for some bling bling and away with the awful blue stuff:

Here its starting to look like I want it:

Most of the Spec-R goodies. Expansion tank, oilbreather, swirl-pot, camcover and heatcover
But still a bit messy and some of the wires still visible. The plan is to hide away all the cables and other small bits I want to hide. Want to make it as clean as possible.
Have mounted swedish inlet with 3” throttlebody, 2wd manifold, modified irx600 turbocharger(quick spoolup), genesis fuelrail, 1000cc injectors, coilpack and Link engine computer management

As you all can see the polished aluminumparts gets scratched very easily, and needs polish all the time. I didn’t bother doing this all the time so I sent all the parts to a chromer.

One step forward, and two step back:

All the parts back from the chromer:

Then we have come to the underside of the car. I decided to change everything under the car, and I mean everything. So it became a total underside restoration. New brakes, coilovers, wheels, transmission, diff, the lot. I still have some more work to be done. Everything is removed. Fixed some spot rust, and prepped for paint. Ive sprayed with 2k sealer and im painting it 3 layers mallard green with 4 layers of clear coat before assembly of all the new parts. So the worst part is done. It was a hell of a job getting this far!! Then I decided to loose some weight and went rearwheel drive

This is how it looked before I started. Fortunately only small spot rust and dirt:

After a few hours with high pressure washer

Check out the fat fook on the floor

All the fuellines, pumps, hoses etc. is being replaced of course. A 023 intank pump, catchtank and two 044 pumps feeding my engine through 10mm pipes.

Have started the job with polishing the exhaust. What a job!!! I might just get a new one lol

Some pictures of the drivetrain, wheels, brakes etc. Eveything is galvanized and powdercoated:

The rear axle that i got was in desperate need of some love:

But after some hard work and a LOT of love it looked pretty good I think.

Various parts galvanized and powdercoated.

Transmission, diff, driveshafts. New bearings, seals etc

Shortened and balanced 2wd propshaft

The wheels. The ultimate escort wheels in my eyes( Big thanks to Dunccoss in here for selling them to me)

Brakes. 380 in front. 330 rear( Mike Rainbird to thank for these babies)

Think ill have a hard time fitting them to my Mk1 sunshine

Coilovers. Gaz with springs with diffrent characteristics then the original ones

Seemwelded the rear top struts so they will take the beating. Also having a rear strutbrace.

For the extrior im going to have some carbon goodies. Think carbon looks very good on this color. Hockeysticks, upper and lower splitter, bonnet vents and wolf spoiler on the rear, lower spoiler.

So now im sitting in Korea at work, just waiting to get back home and finish up the car. And when that’s done it’s my garages turn to get some love. Its getting the ford motorsport colors and racing tiles on the floor!!

Sorry for my bad english

those bits look awesome, and i bet you cant wait to get back home to crack on with it.

i know what you mean about mallard, i hated the colour and never wanted one either, but now ive had one for almost 5 years.

and your right, carbon suits the colour perfectly

Keep the updates coming when you get chance to progress.

The golden parts are the galvanized ones. Cant powdercoat bolts because its to thick paint and it will chip and fall of and start to rust.

The company that did it is called Fatnes Galvanize AS and does only galvanizing. But the two words can mean diffrent things in Norway compared to Uk i guess.

This must be the slowest restoration in here im sure. But im been so busy at work lately. 5 weeks on and 3 of and its been so cold i havent even opened the garage But now ive started to put on some chemicals under there and im gonna spray it next week. But at least the parts are still coming in. Just LOVE the finish on the stuff coming from Marcus at creativecarbon.

Also bought myself a new familycar. A E61 535d Tuned to 330hp. Picking it up tomorrow, but al ready got a lot of parts to that one as well. Carbonsplitter, carbon grille, carbon diffuser, M5 exhaust, M5 front wings, Carbon strutbar etc etc.
