my m3 track car.
i started one when i first got it but its prob easier to begin again rather than add to the old one.
anyway,last year i got the bug after doing a couple of trackdays in my e39 m5,but chucking my 12k road car around wasnt the best idea.so i decided to go on the hunt for something that wasnt as expenive and would be used purely as a track car.i had considered a sapphire cosworth,impreza,evo 4 but common sense prevailed and i decided to go for a 3.0 e36 m3.
at the same time biglee off here was selling his red,re-shelled one that had had a fortune spent on it.a provisional price was agreed and i went down to see it-it was honestly much better than expected and maybe too nice to pull to bits but hey,that was the plan.it had a full mot,tax and huge history filea mint m3 interior,new 18" alloys-all good stuff to sell on.
so it ended up on my truck;
interior was removed next day and sold on ebay for £500
i didnt like the wheels and didnt want 18's for track use so they were sold off and i aquired a set of 17" m3 wheels.which looked much better;
.
the engine was very strong and revvy,it had just had the diff rebuilt at gugelmin motorsport,it came on bilstein b6 suspension,lovely sounding stainless decatted exhaust and induction kit-i was very surprised just how well it went!
when i sold the interior i also removed all the carpet,headlining etc and fitted a cobra monaco drivers seat and harness-didnt bother a bout a passenger seat as it was only going to be a track car.
i booked my first track day at oulton park,replaced the standard front pads with ds3000 pads,braided hoses and race fluid.i had managed to source some r888's via ebay for £40-2x 205/40x17 and 2x 235/45x17.
with all this fitted i went out on my first sessions.
it went well and felt ok,a lot of body roll but good fun............until the plastic from round the fan moved and jammed the fan into my radiator.
a new fan and rad were fitted and another trackday was booked.
again all good until the ds3000 pads destroyed the front discs! i bought a pair of new standard discs and the pads ate them in the next half track day!
i decided i needed 2 things;a decent front brake set up and some better suspension to drop the ride height and stiffen it up.
after speaking to tony(nuts rus) about a compbrake kit-it was quickly delivered to me-lovely 6 pot calipers, 325mm discs and bells-the kit was designed to fit behind the standard wheels but for some reason it was just catching-tony couldnt do enough and after a bit of head scratching things were sorted.big thank you
i couldnt afford to do both suspension and brakes so after doing the brakes i did another trackday-what a difference,excellent set up and no fade for the full day.
however the body roll was becoming a bit of a joke amongst the lads-who are running a gt3 and a m3 csl-it was bad though.......
.
after coming back off my hols i was told by my mate i had been bokked on a trqackday in 3 days-i didnt want to go out again until i had sorted my suspension-no time to mail order the kw coilover kit i wanted so i went to demon tweeks to see what they had in.....they had a bilstein b12 non coilover kit which comes with matched ebach springs £600 later im on my way back to fit them-they were much thicker than the bilsteins i had on it but the ride height was still a bit too high.
anyway i did the trackday-it was a lot better but still not as i wanted.
i had also bought a set of ex touring car slicks from ebay as my r888's were shot-what a difference they made-once they had warmed up.
i decided to bite the bullet on the suspension and eventually went for a bilstein pss9 coilover kit-the car now sits just as i wanted it,also fitted at the same time was some adjustable top mounts(camber and caster),and whilst there its now got a pair of ebach anti roll bars.it sat just right and i couldnt wait for the fast ford trackday i was booked on.
i also removed the headlights for better air intake-i didnt need headlights!
i also bought a rear spoiler from ebay,wasnt sure about it at first but its growing on me.
i had a trackday the week before the ford one but couldnt really get the measure of the car,even on a new set of r888's-im sure you can see why;
but it felt much more stable and planted.....
the ford track day was the best day ive done yet.
can ran awesome and i think surprised a lot of people.
.
now im up to date,well almost.my good friend gt3 mick decided that as the car goes so well and has proved itself,it needed an exterior freshen up which we are part way through doing.
there is quite a few more decals to go on yet,ive got a set of 17x8 hocks to go on too.
ill update when all the decals have been fitted but i think its already looking very cool.

ive done 12 trackdays in the car now.
when the rad went on first trackday that cost me £120 for a recored rad and £20 for a fan from ebay.
ive done oil and filter and plugs once-plugs were £2 each,filter was £6 and decent oil.
ive used 1 set of brake pads.
thats it,and i drive the car very hard!

Car is sorted mate, except for that spoiler. It is a similar spec to my track car, which i am re-building over winter, so we shall see what the improvements bring for me power wise, then battle can commence on more even terms.
Are you doing the ppc track day at oulton, as i think my mk2 escort maybe ready in time.
