SVT Focus Project
Hey everyone!
I thought I would throw a little mix in the RRP thread. I am working on a 2002 Focus SVT "ST170".
It needs much TLC as you will see in the following pictures. I have traced as far back as I can on owners. I believe that there were from 4-6 owners. I beleive that the 2nd or 3rd owner of this car put it to its limits.
I had bought the car about 8 months ago for heck of a deal. I knew that it needed much attention. But everyone knows when somthing needs attention you tend to go a little further than you intended in the first place.
Well Let the pictures begin.
This was the car way before I owned it.
The day that I picked it up. I was very happy that day
With the ZX5 MK2.5
Its stage just before it went into the garage for its TLC
In the garage. Took of the sheet metal for ease of access to the tranny and engine, and just so the sheet metal didn't get damaged anymore than it already is.
The header and cat had broke apart. So they welded them back together. Sawzall's do wonders
Previous owner got a little grinder happy.
And they also didn't line up the clutch plate very well Notice the spring wear in the center
The Flywheel Damage
Things will be better with the new. Clutchmasters Stage 3
I will be updateing and adding more as I move along with this Project.
Thanks for checking it out.

Update today.
Got the clutch and flywheels on.
Here is a little closer look at the old flywheel. If you look closely you can see where it is broken away from its self. I'm very surprized that this car moved at all.
One of the shop dogs.
I was rudly intrupted by the UPS man.....
I don't think he has had a happier delivery before!
I was like a kid on Christmas morning after he left though.
And I got some new shifter cables in.

The old TB vs. BBK
Oil line and lower SC mount
Oil filter is now in the right fender.
Transmission is back in
A long day worth of work.

10/12/08 Update.
I feel better after today about all I have left are lose ends.
The SC is in.
I had spent a little time tucking the wires and lines a little. Still looks like a rats nest.
A close look at the BBK TB.
The intercooler for the water jacket in the SC.
Water pump for the intercooler
A look at the tires I am going to be putting on. Eagle F1.
The exhaust I will be useing Borla Center exit. I have been thinking of Dual exhaust since there are 3-4 SVT Focus's in the area that have the center exit already.
A little grinding here a little tapping there. I had taken off the mounts for the heat shield since I will be wraping this with header wrap, possibly sending it out for Ceramic Coating.
KW Coil's will be going back into the SVT anlong with new SVT struts.
Thanks for looking

Update 10/17/08
Well I decided to wrap the header for the time being. First time wraping didn't think it went to bad.
Instead of the over sized stock cat. I had picked up a high flow cat. Much better looking than that ugly monstrasty that was in there before.
The wheels that will be going on.
Not much of an update.
Thanks for all the great comments!

10/19/08 Update
Well the SVT is back to ground level where it should be.
Header and Exhuast all back together. Over this winter I will be changeing the exhaust up somehow but I'm not sure how yet.
Under the engine compartment looking at the header and HFC.
Once again not much of an update. This is a Stage 1 Build before winter. I will be getting much needed bodywork done over the winter and hopefully other engine add ons. So I will be getting just a base tune when I get it on the Dyno hopefully next week.
Thanks for looking!

A bit of an update.
Out of the Garage with a couple of panels back on.
Here we are with the TD's on. I'm leaning more to getting some TD's pro race 1's
Off to the tuner.
Had a little oil leak.... The gasket blew out on the Oil realocator so all the oil came out accept for .5 of a quart.
Hopeing that everything goes as schedualed it should be tuned on monday
If anybody wanted to watch the Dyno tune it will be on live the Tuners web sight monday 8am-4pm U.S. central standerd time. That would be about 6-7 hrs behind UK time.
Here is the link to their web page.

It runs 8lbs.
I don't have a boost gauge yet, but some people have seen up to 11lbs. I'm not sure what the pully size is I never measured it but its the one that come with the Powerworks.
I've never had boost before so this feels oh so nice

Thats the only Powerworks that I know of over 260 hp let alone 300hp
Woolford- Oh yeah my tuner was talking with me last night when I picked it up and he was saying put some 60lbs injectors Boost-a-pump and run E85 juice in it and we'll get it to the 300hp mark.
But right now I'm just getting used to driveing 244hp vs. my 120hp mk 2.5 ZX5. I'm going to have to invest in a LSD.

Automatic Torque Biasing Differential (ATB). Its what's in the Focus RS gearbox. Basic explination, throws the power to the wheel with most grip when going round corners

Thank you for the info on that cochyn
I haven't heard anybody talk about the ATB just talk about the LSD. Then again it seems that the people talking about the LSD seem to only want to go in a strait line.

I might not do it just yet. But when and if I put a BBK in it and build the lower end up I will most definatly be putting the money down for one.
Right now I have to feather through 1st and feather into 2nd.

Thanks again,
I have boughten alot of parts from CFM. LOL The Powerworks you see in my engine bay was the last one known to exist "new that is". I lucked out there a bit.
I believe BAT "british american transfer" has a ATB.
