Default Norwegian gpa focus

Finally i managed to obtain a 4x4 focus.
After missing out on two focos'es already, there was no chance i would let this third one miss out.
I spotted a 2hour old ad on rallycarsforsale.net, called the owner,
and as soon as the pictures arrived a plane ticket from norway was ordered.
Since he lived two and a half hour from stansted, a rental car was the only option
As i have strict demand on performance of the cars i drive i needed a ferrari.

Well.. at least they own ferrari.
Anyways, after arriving i was introduced to a really decent shell, so i paid up a pretty large deposit and 3weeks later i was onboard a cargo ship from norway for four days to pick up the car and bring it back.

And finally its back home:

Havent gotten any proper pictures of the whole car yet but, its a DOME built car, fabrication work is excellent, all "stress free" nuts and bolts are aluminium, underside is covered with lexan/plastic plates, full cage and seam welded.

Beeing a rallycar i really expected to find alot of damage on it, especially on the underside, but the only thing i found was a crack on both the rear beam support posts.

The rest of the bodywork is almost flawless, a small dent on the door and on the right wheelarch, and since there are no underfloor treatment on the car its quite a bit of rust under it, but nothing of concern.

The car is to be run on gatebil events, sprint-rallys, timeattacks/autoslalom and of course drifting.

Will update this thread as progress is made.

why a focus?
Because Colin drove one.

power enough to perform
Building engine for low down torque, so there won't be any typical norwegian insane numbers.
Transmission wise there will be r&d gear and front diff, 2wd diff on the back, but i'm as decisive as a teenager in a pornstore, so i dont want to write anything about spec and parts before they are actually fitted to the car.

Work goes a bit slow since im missing out one some parts, also some of the parts on the front and rear suspension needs some blasting and painting.
Anyways, wrc steering is fitted. 2rounds lock2lock, steel crossmember and "tarmac" bladed rollbar.

Wrc topmount, temporarely fitted as they are only borrowed, if anyone know of some topmounts in good condition for sale, let me know.

Inside of the car.

Drivers seat mounts needs to be moved alot bakwards, which can be a problem because of the fire extingusher.

SPA electric fire extingusher and waterinjection pump.

Stack st8100 system, im really not a fan of this instrument, but since its already fitted i guess ill just have to use it.

Carbon roof vent, looks neat.

What i do like is that all of the cockpit wiring is already done, i just need to see which pin on the multiplug goes to what before i connect it to the t6.

Found this neat thing on ebay.

Owner claimed it was a proper wrc item, has anyone seen a focus wrc oil catchtank?
Anyways need some cutting in the shell, and some brackets welded for it to fit.

Engineroom is a mess, surprisingly the mt75 gearbox fits directly to the group a gearbox mount, still i need some bolts for it to be fitted. (also gearbox internals )

Tyres has rubbed against the innerwing, so the rubber and rust is removed and its now painted again.

guess its time for some updates.
A lot of plans has changed, thereby nothing has happened in the meanwhile.
So a big engine is on its way, but as it takes some time i bought an rally engine which i have no idea what contains, but it is strong with anti-lag, t34 mar-m turbo and air injectors.
So should work out fine for autoslalom and such, but the big 4wd sideway action would have to wait.
Planning to have it fitted by next week, but some other things needs to be in place first.

As im running a hydraulic clutch i needed to find the correct slave sylinder for it.
After ordering a couple of wrong units, this eventually showed up:

Its the correct one, only that the lower plate have to be removed.

Usually this isnt a problem, but of curse in my case it is...
Two reasons for it, one is that it looks like green locktite have been used on the screws, the other is that it requiers some sort of special tool to remove, anyone know from where i can get these?

The picture is a bit bad, but its the plate marked ZA35 that is to be removed.
When this is in place i can fit it all to my new r&d 6speeder, and have the engine and gearbox joined together.
Also a bit of work is needed on the sump, which hopefully will be carried out this weekend.

Further on...
Apparently this brake setup is no good.

So i sourced some hard to find front brakes

There ya go with some proper ford stamped 6pots with 355mm discs

i also have got hold of a set of rear 4pots with ford stamps and 315mm discs, but they will arrive with the new engine, so it will take a couple of monts, so in the mean time im looking for something else to use.

A picture of the front suspension.
Running full wrc&gpa setup
Dynamic 3way dampers.

Had the rear beam and the compression struts powder coated, looks nice afterwards.
A tip to others is to mask of the places where the unibolts is fitted as three layers of coating makes it a bitch to have the arms fitted afterwards...

As ive decided to run 3.9 on the final gear i needed a rear diff, so i got hold of this one which was fitted to a rally car.

Trouble is all the bolts are imposible to loosen so i have no idea what internals are fitted, except that it is a 3.9:1 cwp.
But most likely quaife or hopefully zf.
Almost as important is the gpa lid

Got to open the rear diff and it turned out to be an quaife unit, not my favorite but guess it will do for now.

Well as always things that was supposed to be no problem at all takes alot of time.
At the moment im struggeling to sort out the hoses for the clutch sylinder, the local fittings distributor did not have all the parts i needed, and both the shops who are supposed to make hoses refuses to do so, because they say the arent allowed to because it is a critical component on a car.....
So i need to make some calls tomorrow and find someone who have the parts i need, as this must be in place before i throw the engine and gearbox in the car.
Quite anxious to go mental with this gearbox though

Sump is almost ready..... managed to forget to make a hole for the drainplug, and also those suckers at r&d are using quite a long time to have the spacer needed where the original speedo drive would have been....
Ford promised me the oil seal for the x-shaft within this week.
So as soon as this is in place the sump can be mated with the engine and front diff.

After seeing a steering extension on ebay i started bidding on it, turned out to be the not so thrustworthy atm guys who had the part.. so i was quite suprised when it actually arrived in my mailbox. (cost me 15£)
As the description (as always) said it was a proper 909 item i was sure this would be a direct fit for my 909 steering and on my sparco wheel.
None of the parts fitted, so after a bit of machining it came in place.

Also got hold of some spacers for the compression struts, which are proper wrc ones, so the front suspension is almost ready.
Still need some spacers for the lower arms, but i have the parts just need to machine them a bit.
