YB powered Capri. (The peppermint hippo) seriously light, does wheelies
Ok so as some of you may know i have just broken my black saff cos.
After alot of consideration I decided to do this and save to buy an escort cosworth, so the capri will be a fairly cheap(ish) not by any means mint(only the colour) track/road toy while Im saving.
I bought this car of off a mate(cheap) who needed some cash asap, the engine was a 351 cleveland 5.8 v8 with 200hp nos kit.
But this was not fitted in the car when I got it, though it had been for many years. Was told it did a high 11sec @ the pod.
Thing is this is not my thing(big heavy v8's and drag stuff) and as it has a fairly tidy shell and a quaife diff, coilovers and a cage all fitted allready the above plan was hatched.
And before its said, I'm not particularly fond of the colour either but with some more black parts(bonnet, wheels and spoiler) added it should look reasonable.
This is how it looked when I got it. READ ON, IT GETS BETTER>
First thing I did was throw the bonnet back into the 70's where it belongs, and remove all the stickers.
I gave the bay a tidy up and a polish and got rid of all the bodged wireing and brackets.
I then dropped out the xmember(2l item) and chopped off the shit mounts that had been bird poo welded on for the v8.
Then got my self some pinto mounts with donuts
and popped this in
saff's rs500 IC fits in a treat as it did have a large rad for the v8.

Cleavlands are a bigger block and not that great. Not as good for power, heavier, not as cheap/easy to get bits, etc etc.
Though when it comes down to it its still a 5.8 litre engine, so not shy.
I have a nice 351W, but its not for sale

wouldnt bother supercharging ryan, turbo it.
make him an offer and take it, even as it is it would make 500bhp+ at under 10psi with a couple of cossie t3s or similar on it...

Little update as I busy at work and being self employed means I gotta take what I can when I can.
Got the Bay a bit cleaner and tidier with a dash of Matt black hammerite round the chassis rails and the x-member.
Got a bit of a hold up also as my mounts where bent making the engine sit twisted in the bay.(as you can see in the pic below compared to the arb)
New items winging their way from ebay.
Though I did get a type 9 gearbox mount from a capri which is now bolted on my lovely and clean CTS big tooth box and ready to fit.

Ok so yesterday I fitted my new engine mounts so the engine was back in the hole straight this time. Then I could get the gearbox on, which ment cutting some of the old tunnel(fitted by previous owner for the V8's box, badly I might add) out, which ended up in me making the decision to cut the back part of it off completely to replace with an escort large tunnel. Which should be tidier once welded in neatly.
In this photo I just made some cuts and peeled it open to get the T5 in the right place.
Stripped out the Interior rs 1600i seats are going on ebay, though as you can seen here the lazy sod's who painted it got board when it came to the inside and the door shuts. Will paint these bits once the tunnel, cage and seat frames are done. The handbrake has been moved back for the v8 shifter, you can see where they put a plate over the original hole. another thing to sort in good time.
Floor I will prob just paint black myself, as 1 its cheap and 2 the boot has allready been done black at some point. Door shuts will match the stunning shade of peppermint on the outside.
The rear Half cage needs refitting, as I'm not 100% its been built to FIA regs.
Will order the cds tube from merlinmotorsport to make a front half with door bars.
I also painted the turbo tail matt black and refitted it along with a mk2 grill.
Thought I would see how it looked(and if the engine was satright when on the floor) so i popped some shocks in and wheels on. These are not the wheels it will run.

Got a few more bits done last week and made the choice to get rid of the bodged up half cage. So I ordered a nice 6 point item which is on the way to me now, should keep me safer and stiffen her up a bit.
Also did,
Intercooler and rad modded and fitted
boost hoses made up
throttle cable fitted
handbrake refitted in the right place with a new cable
Old cage removed
Fuel pump fitted
bought fuel lines
Bought some cossie lattice wheels(which will be painted black)
made up a turbo rad from a yz125 cost a fiver
Then fitted all this, brand new rack and rod ends, tca's,anti dive kit and poly bushes.
Next up is the tunnel which will be replaced with a mk1/2 escort large item(will order first thing in the morning)then the cage can go in and the floor can be painted.
