Default My Budget Trackday Primera eGT

I thought i'd share some pics of my latest track car, and the progress that has been acheived on a very strict tight budget.

Having had numerous RS cars in the past, i wanted to get back to basics and try and get as much reliable track time as i could, for as little outlay as possible.

I had a Primera GT as a company car back in 1999, so knew how well they handled "out of the box". I found this delightful specimin on fleabay for £260.00. The PAS belt was broken and the car was undrivable. I got the car recovered home, found out the water pump had siezed, hence breaking the belt. Luckily the car hadnt been driven and the engine hadnt overheated. £27.00 later and the pump and belt was replaced and the car drove like new. It had done 110k with full nissan history and just 3 owners!!!

Heres how it arrived.

Next job was to try and get it track ready. A cheap set of lowering springs were sourced and fitted, we changed all the discs and pads, to mintex road discs and some mintex M1144 pads front and rear.

That concluded all the mechanical mods LOL. I managed to find a set of 16" primera sport alloys which i had powder coated gunmetal grey and fitted with some 195/45/16 cheapy road tyres

Heres how it looked on the 16"'s, and also the nice used £10.00 K & N induction kit!

Next off was the interior, i still had the Cobra Suzuka GT seats from my S2, so managed to get them in, along with a pair of harness's

Last but no means least, some track pics,

All in all, it owes me less than £1100, and has done about 6k miles since i got it, nearly all on track.

Ive changed the oil once, never touched plugs or anything else and it takes the beating of its life on trackdays, regularly touching just under 8000rpm, lap after lap.

We did a rolling road day at powerstation (spiky was there with his 205) and it made 163bhp at 7200rpm, to say i was chuffed is an understatement!!

All ive done recently is get some 2nd hand 15" GT alloys and run R888's on them for extra grip.

No other plans as yet (unless i find a very cheap GTir engine???

Matt

Cheers lee, it just lacks that bit of propper shove down the back straight at donny, but to chase horsepower in this will defeat the object of being a cheap shitter!

Well if you could just keep it on the tarmac and not on the grass/gravel every lap then I wouldn't be shouting obsenities at you!

I blame Jim Gallbaly (sp), it was his fault, forcing me to try and keep up with him!

It handles well off road, dont you think Phillys?

Considering Jim has TWICE the power of your taxi don't you think that was a little silly? My grandad has some old JCB tyres knocking around somewhere, do you want them for your next trackday?

You know me I don't like rushing these things, I've only had the shell for 2 years! That would be sound mate and I might even have some front brakes that work next time out

The lads from the car club stickered it up first time out at donny. Somehow the pics found their way onto the Primera owners club site, and a few got all huffy about the "taxi" piss take, apparantly it did nothing to aleviate the sterotype...

not in my opinion! clung on for dear life if you ask me! very impressive amount of grip!

just lacked grunt. Was only on the straights that the Westy was faster. NOTHING in it around the bends!

LOL - i remember the one session in the morning, i think maria was driving Yorik (there was blonde hair flowing anyway) and you were passanger, 4 times we caught you through craner, then passed you just past the old hairpin, only for you to come past me at mach 3 down under the dunlop!!

We were waving at the end cos it seemed to be just us two on track!

I dissagree with the lack of grip, just the r888's screaming for mercy LOL!
