VW T4 Van -> Camper Conversion (update 22.11.10)
Hi all,
thought i'd post up my sister's van conversion shes been working on over the past year. All copied and pasted off the forum she uses:
The van when I got it - only 49,000 miles. Added clear indicators first.
It came ply lined which was a bonus
Shame it had a bulkhead tho - no probs got my other half to cut it out with is angle grinder I:
A few angle grinder discs later and...
Insulation next - i used a kit from amdro conversions - it consisted of sheeps wool and hemp, it came in two thicknesses, 1 for floor/ceiling, 1 for walls.
Battons silkaflexed to floor, then insulation layed, and then screwed down original wooden floor.
Interior carpeted - using original ply lining.
All the tricky bits done too T:
Windows added, slider on drivers side for ventilation whilst cooking, and standard on passenger side.
Blue Circle floor added - easy to brush, mop and keep clean.
New sony speakers replaced original dash speakers, also wired in some sony 6x9s in the rear
Sony head unit with ipod connection added
Rock n roll bed fitted - managed to drill thru spare tyre at the same time
Units fitted + leisure battery fitted by jerba campervans
My friend is an excellent seamstriss and covered the foam for meA:
Faux suede and 12v led spots fitted to the ceiling - 1 switch per 2 lights, 3 switches total.
The finished article - took the pic with a different camera - the green colour came out different
Just fitted my new Audi A4 seats the other day + leather steering wheel.
Next on the list is alloy wheels and possibly colour coded bumpers and mirrors.
------------
Cheers,
Agar

Thanks,
The cooker/units are all custom fitted. The van was left down at Jerba Campervans in Kilmarnock for 2 weeks. Its all very good quality materials. The bed was ordered from some place down in Devon.

Her van would now go for 10K-12K easily. Often you'd see 160,000 miler original campervans (or caravelles as they are offically named) going for similar money these days.
She bought the van off ebay at a bargin price, and spent around 2-3K on it. Her spending still falls short of 10K by a large margin.

I would love one of these.
A mate of mine in Worcester is into them and has a couple at his work and when he told me how much they were worth I was amazed!
Please keep us updated as I'll follow this thread now.

Wow - back from the dead
Thanks for reporting the spammer Si - any luck with your old car issues? PM me if you wish.
I'll need to update this thread soon as the van now has colour coded bumpers and mirrors, carbon wrapped door handles, alloys, painted brakes, new fridge, tv etc etc.

Update:
Yes, I know its been a long time coming, but I simply forgot about the thread until very recently. My sister has just sent through some recent pics of her van. I will try and cover everything which has been done to it since the last update.
First addition was alloy wheels. After considering RS4 and RS6 rims, she bought some 17's which were properly load rated for use on the van. RS4/6's are technically illegal for it due to the kerb weight and she didn't want to take any risks. The ride on the alloys seems a lot better than the old steel items. At the same time I painted the brake calipers for her:
Next it was time to colour code the bumpers and mirrors. She did all the work herself in her garage - not a bad job for using rattle cans:
At around the same time, we had a go at 3M carbon fibre wrapping. Really excellent stuff and quite easy to get to grips with:
Now, more recently, she fitted a DVD, digital tv tuner and fold down screen for those rainy days away:
Old cupboard space where cool box used to live was replaced with a built-in fridge which is far quieter and more energy efficient than the cool box:
Shes now tempted to chip it, but not 100% sure whether or not to get it done. Only other addition on the horizon is a 12v hook-up.
Cheers,
Agar
