cheers for the nice comments everybody

the whole shell has been 1500 n 2000 grade wet flatted now, and machine polished with g3, and already the finish is looking impeccable, as close to glass as we could get!!!

going to give it a machine polish with the 3m finesse-it to get rid of the fine swirl marks caused by the g3, then she will be perfect

will try and get some pics up when i get access to a decent camera to do the finish justice, hard to tell on a camera fone and with limited light

ok, update 1

been busy stripping down and repainting my coilovers

and the springs...

also, sorted out the suspension bolts iv managed to source to date from ford, plenty more to get hold of, but this lot cost me near enough 40quid as it is!!! shocking, but genuine is the way...

bodywork update

as stated before, the removed panels all suffered from surface reaction for unknown reasons, with blistering all over. so these had to be dealt with. plus 1 of the doors was sourced from elsewhere as a replacement, and it reacted very badly along a swage line, so this was a major issue to be dealt with also

door reaction...

and the process of taking 320grit and a DA to fresh expensive laquer and paint

and due to this not being my garage, the compressor set up has to be somewhat portable, so heres our mobile office lol....

compressor in each and a load of hose, job done

and all the panels finished down to 800grit once more, with the reacted door areas flatted right down, filled, and then high build primer to cover..

next up, final prep, with some 1k filler for any of the deep blisters that need a bit of attention, then a final go over with 800grit and then some scotch, and jobs a gudden, ready for paint....AGAIN!!!!

bit of a bodywork update

got the panels resprayed again, and this time successfully without laquer reaction, which is awesome!!!

only have pics of the bonnet, and all the panels are currently in the process of being colour flatted and machine polished to remove the inevitable shit that landed in the laquer

and heres the mobile office, my work van, complete with work kit, getting covered in paint during mixing and overspray haha. note its being done in pitch black, with the revrse light of another car lighting it lol

will get some more pics 2moro hopefully of the freshly polished panels

sprayed up my new TCA's as they are uncoated cast metal as standard which will only surface rust and look terrible after 5 mins

prepped and primed my bonnet hinges ready to paint

then began fitting my polybush kit

1st major problem was the inner rear trailing arm bush. we removed the old bush, and of course the outer sleeve shifted as a result, so this had to be removed also. but the polybush kit didnt come with an outer sleeve, nor did the polybushes fit tightly without said outer sleeve, so ended up with a huge gap and a huge issue

in the end, i had to buy standard replacements from ford, and fit them in, complete with their outer sleeve. so far havent bothered to cut out the inner part of the bush to replace with the polybush, may leave them standard to avoid hassle, we shall see

fitted the rest of the polybushes though:

i have the rest of the kit, but obviously they are bushes that just drop in upon assembly, so no pics of them

couple of other bits and bobs iv acquired

new harnesses (have 2)

OMP 3" harnesses, with the eyelit style mouting points

and this is what near enough Ł100quid gets you from ford in terms of nuts and bolts and washers and seals for suspension resto...

not a fat lot!!!! lol

all very nice n shiny n zinc coated genuine spec kit, so cant complain, no hassle trying to find nuts and bolts to fit now

That looks like it will be a really nice car when it is all done. I fancied doing mine Mallard Green at the start, but we wouldn't have been able to do a proper colour change like you have on the inside and still kept in budget/ time scale.

Very nice!

cheers for the nice comments every1

started colour flatting and polishing the sprayed panels last night, got the tailgate, bonnet, and 1 door done. bonnet needs a bit more 1500 work and another mopping to remove the remaining blemishes (i was flatting the bonnet, and due to bein shit scared of catchin an edge and ruining the whole thing, it took me twice as long to do half the job haha)

couple of pics mid polish...

tailgate really shows the depth and shine, really come up well

will get the other door and the bonnet done next week, to a standard where they will only need a quick machine polish again once mounted on the car, as its hard to put enough pressure on when they are precariously balanced on workmates and random stands lol

also, just ordered myself a few more bits from ford, set of dashboard bolts, some injector seals, and a new VIN plate as mine has not only seen better days, but has also done a disappearing act lol

started to strip down my rear hubs ready for paint/powdercoat and reassembly of the rear disc set up

the good bits..

and the bits off to the tip..

decided i wanted to bufty spec my top engine mount, so dug out 2 i had lying around, and stripped em both down to make up 1 good 1...

think this rubber mount had seen better days, both end plates had ripped off...

going to see about sourcing a new rubber section from ford if poss, then have the main metal section powder coated black, with the previously zinc coated section either zinc'd again, or just painted gold

also, moved my bonnet and bootlid back home and placed them on the car to have a look...

chuffed with the way the bonnet looks, vent looks real subtle now its all 1 colour and on the car
