Cheers gents. Just ordering some black alloy fasteners to fit it. I was tempted to rivet it, but I want it removable so the bumper can be painted etc.

UThis is as far as I've got today. All wiring from the dash back is now out, all deadening now gone and made a good start on removing most of the excess seam sealer.
Almost ready to start scotching up for paint, I'll get most of that done before the cage goes in because it's easier. Then it will all be prepped again once the tube work is in.
Yes I'm in the boot scraping sealer lol.

Following this up, I've carried on and done some more.
Complete AC system out.
With that in mind I got the trusty bathroom scales out.
Complete AC system was 13.2kg
Space saver & jack 20.1kg
Approx 15kg in misc parts (couldn't get them all on the scales)
11kg sound deadening.
So there a good 60kg before looking at bumper beams and the U brace is still on the car.
I'm yet to start on the doors too. It sounds daft but it's noticeably easier to push by hand.
I've also got a steel alternator bracket on the way so I'll dump the big chunk of ally too.

Been tempted to lose that recess for a while now. Maybe I will next time it's painted. Believe it or not the Volks are 3mm lower offset than the speedlines before and stock out slightly further. I think it's the wheels lip design that makes them appear to sit further in. If they come out any further I'll need to roll the arches.

Well that's it, she's now living in Wales for a month having the cage done. Looking forward to building it back up once she's done. Cage is full custom T45 so should keep the weight down. I couldn't believe the difference when holding the tubes compared to CDS. Amazing!

Because everything is improved with less weight, steering, braking, directional changes, acceleration.
I got tired of it being an overweight car, carrying around a whole heap of stuff that I didn't use or need.
I'd rather have weight in the form of a cage which is actually stiffening the bodyshell, than carrying around a radio that I never even used to listen to, or air con that I never used. Lol

Still more coming out.
Standard seat rails gone, seatbelt reinforcements gone, basically every unused bracket and fixture is slowly coming out.

Theres still a hell of a lot to go back in as i dont want it to look like its been butchered, but sensible weight loss and as light as possible is the target. So it will have carbon door cards etc bu the doors will be gutted, front elec windows and heater are staying. Everything else that isnt needed will be removed.

Christ on a bike that's some prep work. What cage is going in?

Cage is the same as an S12b and all in T45. Few subtle differences so that I can keep the OEM heater box etc. It will go through the floor and pick up on the diff cradle too.

Gear knob is absolutely fanstastic, keep it!
That cage will be superb, do it in some crazy color like lime green or pink. Will suite very well to black color outside.

Big progress today. Cage was dropped to weld the tops and the screen got its corner gussets. Tomorrow the centre cross will be boxed in to the swan neck. But still my favourite part to come and they're the WRC a pillar gussets.
As for MiG vs TIG on cages. I know that Prodrive did a heap of testing and at the time they concluded that Mig was better for cages. I'm sure it's still docmented on youtube. Besides, I can't see anything wrong with any of the welds. They look pretty good to me.
