series one rebuild
I'm new here so bear with me.
Well here we are 8 months into this build.
This car belongs to my mate carl who bought it about 2 years ago.
Usual story got it home had a good look got scared it then sat untouched until we did something about it.
Here we have a picture as she used to look
I think it was quite new when this picture was taken.
story so far.
Front panel, crossmember, both flitches, scuttle, wings, aposts inner and outer sills 1 inner rear wheelarch 1 complete wheelarch 1 section both rear corners, floor, chassis and sections of bulkhead have all been dealt with by that i mean cut out and replaced.
welding, grinding, screaming and shouting plus the odd bit of swearing and of course working and sweating this is where were at.
These are naked underbody pics, make the most of them cos its gonna be a daily driver and although it will be clean i cant see it staying white for long.
Next step is to mock up suspension so front outer panels can be gapped with the car sitting on her wheels which will eliminate differences caused by body flex.
All were waiting for is a handbrake cable then we can get her on the floor and finish the front.
Outside all of the welding and shaping has been completed and with her rolling she'll be off to the body shop and coming back gleaming.
and yes that is the 3m "bloodpack" stonechip I wouldn't use anything else
rolling by friday watch this space....

countdown to progress
Well I,ve been sitting on my backside for a couple of weeks for a well earned rest.
I resisted the urge to go down the garage but i cant fight it much longer.
Back to work monday and progress will be made especially as vroooom psssstsh appears to be overtaking me as he's going to get his scuttle on tomorrow.

ladies and gentlemen update time
well, done quite a lot in three days Front is on scuttle is on and final prep for primer is where were at at the moment.
Having a night off tomorrow got an ultra busy weekend planned.
There are a couple of bits that are not quite there yet and need a little fettling and a bit of time awaits us making good some new panels that have suffered 8 months in the garage syndrome.
In the meantime here are those piccys I promised.
Going for primer saturday, then probably a coat of paint round the bay and under the front arches, but to do that we are gonna drop out the suspension on the front again then refit it for external paintwork.
Hoping to have topcoat on wed/ thurs of next week.
We shall see!

Busy weekend
Progress has been made
by the end of saturday we had.
The whole car in primer
The front suspension off
The engine bay prepped and painted
The suspension back on with rack for steering ability
Both bumper set ups including mouldings, mirror caps, front grille and rear spoiler all in colour.
And most of the car flatted
Huge thanks go to the guys that helped to get it done namely shaun, gary, mark, and dan for giving up bits of their weekend to help us
bay painted
car in primer with with suspension refitted
Busy people and two more in the other booth
One or two painted bits
And some that aren't
That was saturday, sunday was more of the same final fettling the car and prepping the bodykit.
All ready for paint now and we hope to get it painted tomorrow but we are running low on paint we will need to get another litre or two to ensure we have enough to do all the kit, we'll probably hit that tuesday
More updates throughout the week.

Well it's been a long time in the making but shes white and parked back in my garage (ren5 on hold till rs done).
spending a lot of time at the moment sorting some parts out that i just cant bring myself to fit.
Wiring loom that came out had some really dodgy modifications/ repairs done which meant while it was off the road it would need repair/replacing.
We got one but unfortunately that had been cut too.
were going to make one good loom out of the two by removing bits we need from the new one and putting them into the old loom (properly of course) and rebinding it, hopefully we will end up with one good loom that looks as good as new sitting in some new clips around the engine bay and across the xmember.
Then I plan on fitting the servo and master cylinder, brake & fuel lines (all reconditioned of course) while the front suspension is away having the powdercoat treatment.
I will upload some pictures of her in her shiny glory next time I roll her out.

When theres work there will be photos
we kind of had a bit of time off so carl could settle into his job.
and I've been rushed off mine at work and worked a few late nights, but all being well we'll be back on it the rest of the week and the photos will follow.

Long awaited update
Had a bit of sunshine today so we rolled her out and took some photos.
As you can see we are still in very early stages of rebuild.
I want to get all the wirng loom and alarm in for a dry run to make sure all my wiring repairs are doing what they should be.
That means building up the tailgate, both doors with windows in and cdl solenoids front and rear washer bottles fuel pump and rear lights for starters.
Then, once I'm happy I will fit the dash and engine.
I dare say there will be lots of this
And probably some of this
But it seems to be going quite well at the moment so maybe it might be more like this
We are concentrating on the steering column, pedal box and brake servo set up atm and there are a few brackets that need a coat of satin black and as usual the servo itself needs it too so thats gonna be a few days away.
Ill put a bit more effort in next week and see where we get to this time next week,
update then.

Been over the garage again tonight and all interior wiring is in/ repaired and waiting to be tested under the bonnet needs a bit more sorting out and rear light clusters need to be renovated with even more wiring thanks to some bastardisations over the years (got my work cut out with them.)
more to follow (and maybe some pics too)

more wiring
wahaaay
I've reached the end of the wiring
that is to say all systems fitted are wired ready to test
ie wipers, lights, washerbottles, horn, central locking, window regulators, heated rear window etc etc etc
Helpful hint
Anyone who's ever tried to repair tailgate loom wiring in rear d posts will tell you how bloody hard it is to get the solder to flow (usually resulting in dry joints)
If you are lucky enough to have a bench grinder with a wire wheel, run the wire through that which removes the silver coating and weathering and leaves you with virgin copper which will solder up perfectly.
I consisder it my duty to let you all know my secret.
(though technically its not one now)
Finally, we now have most of the bulkhead built up brake servo set up steering column heater outlet/ fan wiring etc
so now all we need is a battery (dont forget engine is not in so we wont be starting for a while)
Wish me luck
