Chris - thanks for your help and finding cables for me. Maybe i should renew all the cables to the battery?

Stu - i may strip it and sell the parts. undecided as yet. The fun has gone outof owning and driving it when you keep having to fix it after every journey
Hi Rich

You cannot sell your car these things are sent to test us i guess the only problem you have really is because the wiring you have is not TUV APPROVED lol

thats Unbelievable bad luck you've had. fair play to you for carrying on and fighting with it all. I been there myself.

I finished my engine rebuild for my 3dr early this year but i didnt put the car on the road, couldnt afford to. I dont want to tax, mot, insure it it this time of year.. So i'm thinking whether to save up for a gt30 conversion,, or to sell the car. byt the way whats the status of your rear diff,? was there any damage?

Dont know about the diff yet as i havent taken it out. Bara has said there was a problem with some bearing or other on a couple of diff's. Time will tell when i can be bothered to actually do anything with it. I have lost interest completely now

Cracking resto thread and interesting read Rich.

Have been discussing wheel and brake options on Escos forum and got pointed in the direction of your thread.

Few questions for you if i can as it looks like how your car started off after its rebuild is what i want for my 2wd sapphire

1. Could you put 205 tyres on your wheels ? Love the look of yours but would prefer a smaller sidewall depth on mine thats all
2. I want stage 3 power from my sapphire so what brakes would you recommend ? I know you say 330mm's AP's are really good but do i need brakes this big for stage 3 do you think ? (ideally i actualy wanted to stick with the original 15" wheels thats all)
3. Ive been thinking about a bara diff and have spoken to them about that and also rebuilding my T5 as its a bit tired. Would you recommend that ? Quaife etc options sound a bit OTT for me i would of thought ?

Finally, if you could do it again and assuming you kept at "normal" stage 3, what, if anything, would you do differently ?

Cheers
Darren

Darren,

Thanks for the comments. The front tyres are 205. The only reason i could put 205 tyres on my wheels is because toyo said i could. Its because the 888 205 actually measure 212 so its alomost 215 wide.

When my car was stage 3 and even when it was running greys and silly boost through the t34 i used uprated discs and pads. Continual heavy braking did warp the discs eventually, and they do begin to fade but decent brake fluid and braided brake hoses helped somewhat. After i warped the 2nd set of discs i thought i would just buy the ap's.

Yes i would recommend Bara for a diff. I have never had a gearbox rebuilt by him but have heard good things! PM Marco on here and he will see you right

The last part of your question is simple:

If i was to keep it on a typical stage 3 setup i would just go the greys route. I know the greys route isnt a stage 3 setup - that seems to be when you use 803 (dark green's) injectors but i would just do that straight off without going the greens route 1st. I wouldnt bother with a t34.48 i would go strsight for the t34.63. Everything i ended uo with on the greys conversion i would do straight out - so BD14 inlet cam, greys (or siemens range), MSD chip (was very good), vernier pulleys so cam could be dialled in to MAD spec and as much boost as possible -2.5 bar spike, proper fuel pump re-wired and setup by a pro - Mark Shead in my case.

However i wouldnt do any of that. I would go straight down the route i took after my t34 exploded and get the GT30 and after market management that i am now using. or i would buy an Evo 6/7

Wheels, tyres, brakes, suspension are all personal preference. Lots of people would have bought cheap coilovers instead of shocks and springs like i have.

The car has changed somewhat now. There is nothing left inside apart from 2 bucket seats. Its now very noisey and intrusive, rattles and bangs and you can hear everything but i love that. I have lost interest in it so somehow i will have to get my enthusiam back as i really want to finish it off with a rear beam and get on some track days!

Hope that answers your questions Darren fire away with anymore you have

Cheers for the comments Rich, much appreciated

I'll have to have a think about the stage 3 set up then and will bear in mind what you've said about greys and management etc.

Tell you what, if (when ) my sapphire is done and is as good as yours, im sure id have no problem in keeping hold of my entusiasm
You've got a great car there from what i can see and i bet its a proper laugh to drive. Get yourself to a few shows and track days this year and i'll keep my eye out and hopefully might bump into you

Darren,

The difference between 1.7 bar boost on greens and 2.5 bar boost holding 2 bar on the greys was very noticeable. Not much more of a cost to you to go the greys or siemens injector route over the greens providing you have the t34, bigger cooler. You dont even need the bd14 inlet.

Stu at MSD will do you a good chip and the siemens injectors. All you need is for someone with det cans and wideband to set it up

Most reputable tuners will do a setup/check with det can and afr for Ł100-150 , worth just going to a pro for that kind of cash. imo

Have already posted this in GD on my rolling road thread but to keep this project thread upto date here it is:

Today has been an interesting one to say the least

This is with Mark's inelt cam. Has already been mapped after the last mishap (see my resto thread).

Here are the graphs. Less boost than last time. More power and lots more lb/ft. i think the limit of the standard ports on the head have been reached. Development of my engine has now stopped for now lol.

Flywheel power

Power at wheels with boost

Wheel speed

Comparison with BD14 inlet cam from the last RR session

I am either going blind or am very stupid. You see the grpah above which is labelled "comparsion with BD14 inlet cam" well on that graph there are 4 lines. The green lines are yesterdays run, the blue are from the bd14 run i couldnt make it much simpler if i tried

Thats an impressive change. What sort of production cam, say from the BD range, comes close to your MAD cam, Is a BD14 close duration wise etc?

Love this spec Rich! Just had another read through and for a standard(ish) engine, the car makes really good power.

Well played
