Got a few little bits done tonight.

All my bits for the clutch and brake lines arrived and also my loom braid 8)
Made up my clutch line

Finished off my bias box. All piped up, and mounted the bias valve for the rear brakes to the side of the box. (I'm aware I don't really even need it lol)

And I will be mounting the T peices for the brake lines here on the bulkhead. Just need one more M10 banjo bolt as I ordered one too less and could do with the engine out to mount the integral master cylinder for the clutch. The brake lines go through the heater box so they wont be seen apart fron where they go in and out. 8)

Brian
I'm actually being lazy and just braiding the bits on show. Which will be very little I can see why you'd put off doing a whole loom if it were all still attatched.

those banjo's are the best fitting imo, you get a larger surface area to get a good seal with. I put standard fittings on the puma for now and they arn't to clever.

Rob,
It's the standard stuff from VWP what ever that is, Rob.

I haven't mounted them anywhere yet, Will. I wanted them straight in the cylinders, but the charge pipe goes through there. I'm hopeing to use a strut brace and mount them on that, but becuase of the inlet, that will also need modifying

As above, Matt, I haven't mounted them anywhere yet. Jut got to find a suitable place or get AH Fabrication to make me up a nice mount plate or something.

I've chopped all the shite out, I've just got to extend lots of the wires as the fusebox is now behind the centre console and wires will go through the inner wings so nothigns long enough lol. I'm just braiding what can be seen so wont be much. Good old insulation take will be covering the rest.

Finally got my handbrake callipers on!

I made some mounts out of 4mm steel and welded them to the existing calliper brackets. Very pleased with how they have come out and they work perfectly.

Knocked up these little shim washers

And as if I didn't have enough width on the back end with the 8J rims. The bells on these rear brakes give me a further 20mm or so

Also done most of the wiring loom, but how interesting is a loom

Would it not be more beneficial and safe to have the bracket re-cut with the handbrake mech brackets all as one piece rather than just welded on?

Probably would be, but the calipers are just for the handbrake and the car is not used daily so I can't see me having any problems.
Also, the caliper mounting surfaces aren't flat and parallel to the disc or at equal heights both sides to one another, so the mount would have to be made to accommodate this, so would be also be expensive.

You can see here the metal had to be heated and bent slightly to the correct angle so everything was flat and square.

Plus the bracket was welded both sides and penetrated right through so should be plenty strong enough.

As it's a nice day and the car is grey with dust I decided to roll her outside and wash her down. The paint has come up lovely and deep and I haven't even polished it yet.

The XR3 is not happy being downgraded to "tiny biscuit wheels"

wow, what a great build!

im liking the pedal box, was going to do something similar. was it a straight fit onto the original part that poked out where the servo unit was?

Also loving the battery in boot and fuse box moved!!
How easy was it to do the fuse box as i am also considering doing this?

Cheers

The pedal box bolts straight in where the servo was. Direct fit, although brake lines need re working.

The fuse box has proved to be one of the most time consuming and frustrating things I have done so far. You need to completely strip it back, re make, lengthen and shorten pretty much everything.

ah right okay Thats kool, sounds easy enough, currently running braided lines throughout so should be to bad as i made them all long enough incase for this situation.

fuse box doesnt sounds too good though!
i was thinking about making up a completely new fuse box which has the relevant things, think its 20 fuses, 5 relay's and 4 micro relays. however i would use 20 micro fuses or mini fuses whichever their called.

and use the modular fuse relay system.
but that just leaves me with running all the cables through the inner wing....i might leave that untill i strip it all down again

cheeeers

I was thinking about making my own fusebox but the Escort unit isn't too bad really so I've kept it for now. maybe something to think about though.

Thats looking cumorific mate,

question, are your drive shafts fitted? and will you need to remove your bottom arms to fit your engine and box back in?

also, random... do you know any one who still makes adjustable bottom arms?

keep it up mate!

Rob,

Rob, no driveshafts fitted as the engines back out at the moment. Gearbox came back yesterday so is covered in Nitromors at the moment so I can paint it up nice. I haven't got any driveshafts at the moment. I'm getting some off Jano at Central Day. I've just stuck some old CV joints in to stop the hubs moving so much when it's being moved.

Bottom arms will need to be loosened to get the driveshafts in the hubs, yes. Enigne and box will be going in on Wednesday with carful use of the forklift

i'm not sure who makes them now as mine are MEF and I think they have stopped producing them?
