Default Sapphire 4WD Cossie, Engine rebuild. Pistons are here.

So in a matter of days its turned from me nearly throwing in the towel to me deciding to do some thing about it.

I bought this just a few months ago, I knew it needed an imminent rebuild. I have this week off so thought I would start.

As she stands.

Engine, as if you have not seen one of these.

Cam cover off, does not look to bad here. However has had head work in the past;

Inlet gubbins off, This hurt my hands getting the bottom nuts off.

General view.

Reminder for pipe locations

No bleeding knuckles today thank god.
Plan is bottom end rebuild and body work tidy up where needed.

Keep your eyes open.

I was told you could not get the inlet manifold off without taking the head off. It got my hump up so wanted to prove them wrong. When we did smartrs's 2wd we took the head off in one. Only took bout an hours tops too.

So, heads off today. Bores do look in pretty good condition.
Believe its still standard bore too as no markings on the pistons. Has some minor Det marks on 4 and one of the holes for head bolts needs looking at as its been marked where had taken off or put on last time.

Todays update then;

The bores are actually in fantastic nick. No lip to complain of at all.
My question is. Is it worth changing the pistons just for sake of it.

If all it needs is hone and new rings surely this could save me a packet.

If its on standard bore and pistons are fine then I wouldnt bother changing them just for the sake of it. No point getting block machined to take bigger pistons when you dont need to. Wait till it has to be done before you do it IMO.

can see pistons marks from the pictures, but normal on most cossys, unless the pistons have been machined for a high lift cam?

Ryan I wouldnt know mate. Car is new to me unfortuantly.
From looks of coding on Cams they are as standard. Worry not I will have all clearences checked. If they are needed then they will be used. If not I will just be lucky.

At teh price I didnt want to turn them down. If it does turn out that it only needs rings then do not worry I will not use them and I shall put these ones up for sale.

Good lad. If they were cheap enough it may be worth hangin on to them as spares for the next rebuild.

Engine is covered in oil and shite so gave this a steam clean. Results are cool.
