MK1 XR2, I'm new
Hi,
I have recently bought a Mk1 xr2, I bought it from leeds and drove it all the way back to Aberdeen. It never missed a beat or used a drip of oil.
WPE 730Y, anyone know it?
It's a really nice car, Silver, totally standard and really immaculate.
I was planning using it for shows in the summer but I've recently been given a years ban so I put it up forsale but soon changed my mind.
I'm now turning it into a little project but I'm not 100% sure what I'm going for.
I have some ideas as to the way I want it to look but I don't know which engine option I want to take. What are most people on here running.
So to sum it up I'm looking to build a really quick Mk1, that looks pretty much standard but has some nice touches. I will post pictures up later.

engine swap
Hi,
The easy way to make your car faster is to do a turbo engine conversion. Use the festa rs turbo engine and loom and ecu,
If your going for monster power do a complete zetec turbo conversion.
You again could use the festa loom and ecu and use the frst inlet and exhast system. If your budget will allow use the cossi management.
Hope this helps.

I would be after pretty big bhp, wouldn't spend all that time to be running a pretty standard setup.
How much would it cost (on average) to build a 200+bhp ZVH.
Also what gearbox/shafts etc should I run?
It has the standard 4 speed in it justnow.

If you are not bothered about the car loosing originality and value - a 2 litre Zetec would make a nice reliable drive. Or if you want bigger power a Zetec Turbo, ZVH Turbo or Turbo EFi CVH.
All have been done - it depends on your budget, time, devotion and perseverance.
Check the forums on www.xrtwo.com which can be found:

Thanks, Im not really worried about keeping the car original. It's going to look original apart from the exhaust, seats and a rollcage.
My budget is quite high and I want a good & reliable spec.
I've done alot of work to Minis but always retaining the A series engines, havn't done a engine conversion before.
I like the idea of a ZVH turbo.
What are you running in your Mk1?
Thanks
ould I be best to buy a scrap FRST and use the bits from it as a basis? Or better to buy individual bits.

Seriously - all you'll ever need to know, plus guides and members that have done the conversions you are looking at are over on the forum. There is a large FAQ area, plus I'm a mod and can answer most if not all your Mk1 questions.

I run 370bhp and 390ft/ilbs of torque through a 2litre ZVH.
