Driftspec Escort Cosworth
This is my new racecar in the 2008 season. It was a rallycross champion car in 2003 here in Hungary. I bought it two years ago, and I started to rebuild in the winter.
It is a hybrid, the whole running gear, the engine, the electical system, the gearbox came from my previous Sapphire Cosworth 2wd. Which was built for drift too.
The car is about 900-1000 kg because everything is fiberglass, just the roof, and the left door remain steel. The engine is near to standard, but it runs with VEMS engine management, with 36-1 trigger, with wasted-spark. The ECU has lauch control, ALS, boost control and of course wideband closed loop lambda control and egt.

should be!
z0tya had a little accident on the last H.D.A. (Hungarian Drift Association) training day yesterday, but we replaced the broken coil over with a stock sierra stuff on the site and he was able to continue the day. so we just need a little time to fix to be original (as we think original) with some fiberglass work too, and than go to measure.
(hi, my name is Leslie (László) a friend of z0tya and Szabyk RST from Hungary)

Hi nice photos.
please post up when you weigh the car.
I'd be very surprised if you managed to get below 950kg, but if you do, well done.
If possible corner weights too.
do you know a guy called Janos Klink? Don't know what his car weighs, but I think he uses alloy uprights.
regards
Kenny.

the car is 1080kg filled with all liquids, fulltank, ready to race.
a little more than we expected, but less than other cars in this category.
maybe in the future we can be lighter about a 20-30kg, but this also works well. the car is finally mapped for race, now we have more power, should be more than 250HP for this season.
and we met Janos Klink on a hillclimb weekend, very nice person.
invited us to see his shop, and will help us with some spare parts and the knowledge.
our 3 door 24v sierra managed a 4th place in kragujevac, serbia, King of Europe Drift Series. Fords have to be ranked better from now on in the drift scene, but should be more cars.
cheers

Z0tya did a show last saturday, at a drag racing and tuning show event on the Hungaroring. No, not on the circuit it was in a bigger parking place, used for a slalom race, after then we made the show with the escort, two e30 bmws and a hachiroku.

The hungarian drift championship ended last week. It was a terrible weekend, with rain, with idiot judges and judging rules, but with many driving experience. I was out of the first 16, but previously I won the fourth race on Kislunlachaza. Finally I am the third in the amateur championship. The car is fully drift-capable,all modification works fine.
And I think it looks good too
some pix from the weekend on my site:

we are back!
by the end of last year, rip apart the engine looking for damages and ordered the new parts for making bigger HP.
so we late, big time, but well worth it.
the engine finally done, good up to 500hp but now only runs around 250, need a bigger turbo and injectors.
also changed the rear shocks for coilovers and made a few modifications at the front suspensions.
instead of using spacers, we made a longer front arm, putting out the joining point, get more camber and caster at the front. cut out the joint and made a plate for a vw golf joint fastened.
that makes changes also at the other end of the shock
the car have an incredible corner speed at drifting, 10-20km/h more than before.
you can see some videos this site (for the article, use translating)
http://driftgarage.blog.hu/2009/09/1...kovesdi_videok
it was an amateur drift race, the escort won the event, second our 24valve Mk1 escort, third our Sierra Cosworth, the Driftgarage ruled the whole event by a mile.
more to come
