ex btcc rs500 repaint
heres a quick update for anyone interested
got this ex lawrence bristow labatts car a couple of years back
it ended up in new zealand and i imported it back to the uk.
with its very bright paint job from around 1996 when it last raced
had a few options
FROM THIS AS IT WAS WHEN I GOT IT.
original labatts colours which it ran in 1990
SECURICOR AMEGA ran in 1991
ARQUATI / CAM SHIPPING
WELL IN THE END I DECIDED IT HAD TO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL COLOURS/ GRAHICS
straight from the body shop to the sign guys for the graphics to be done
got a couple of quick pics so i can have a before and after
hopefully i made the right choice

12.5" by 17" rears with 305mm dunlop slicks / wets
10" by 17" fronts with 265mm dunlop slicks / wets
the rear is tubed and can take very wide wheels

I have no doubt it will look spectacular, however, it's really a completely different car with them arches, I'd have wanted to have gone with a paint scheme that was used when it had the kit.

yes mate
un like the graham goode car i restored, this car has had the rear inner arches tubed to except the massive wide wheels and evan the cage has been changed for this to all work
i was told lawrence spent 20k plus modding the car for the 93 thunder saloon series and this involved evan the boot floor / rear beam/ rear arms ect ect
not did not just stick some big body kit on there,
this car won the 93 thundersaloon championship and is considered the best handling sierra thunder saloon from this era of racing
as you can see it has been modded slightly!

Shame you were unable to restore it to its original thundersaloon livery....no one got any decent pics any where from back in the day? Either way...its gonna look a million times better than the colour chart it was wearing when you bought it Another top job on keeping the sierra's racing heritage alive Martin

That is AWESOME !
I can't say I was a fan of the multi coloured paintwork you bought it with but it will look great with the new Livery.
Strangely a guy a I know has a ex thunder saloon (now unarched) and the tubs, cage and bracketry is identical, no idea where the shell originally came from but I know he has had it a long time.
Look forward to seeing the completed pictures

the diff is a 9" fixed spool
same ones they use in the australian v8 race cars
the original rouse 9" lcd diff was replaced after they kept braking it,
problem is the 12.5 " wide rear tyres have massive grip
with this fixed spool diff they is nothing to brake
harder to drive, but the cars been set up for it so does work well.
