My Ka Rs Turbo Rebuild!!!!!
16Many people know of my love for ford ka's, so when this came up for sale recently i couldnt resist. this car is the reason i built my silver ka, it was and still is a kind of icon with in the ford ka community
it was built in 2002-2003 i believe by lee blake, built for his girl friend it was featured in fast ford in 2004, was tuned to 187bhp 202ft lbs, it has changed hands a few ties all of whom have been females.
the car has been in a little bump causing a bit of damage, but nothing that is not easily repairable, ov er all the condition of the car is very good interior needs a bit of tlc and a clean, but over all very hapy no rust, all the wheels are good not kerbed, tyres are all good.
engine has just had a full rebuild (1,000 miles ago along with a new hybrid turbo), new radiator, new exhaust section
the plas for the car are to repair get it mot'd and use as an everyday car then use the silver ka for track and strip action mainly fair weather use
here are some pictures
i did the worst thing anybody can do when buying a car, that is agree to buy it pay for it with out even going to see the car, this is an icon car to me and many others and it was a risk i was willing to take (its a risk that has paid off as it is very good) i agreed a fee on the 14th feb, paid money into her account the 15th arranged for it to be collected on a trailor and delivered on the 16th
and the damaged area
i have a new rear beam to fit tomorrow that will get the car rolling in a straight line instead trying to drift every time you move it!
2 x new racing arches are on order
and its boked into the bodyshop for next weekend hoping to get it mot'd tax'd and road legal by a week monday
i will also be having the car set up at some point not shore where to go , the car has o history or being set up checked over since lee had it chipped and set up in 2003-2004
i want to make shore its all hunky dory
also i am fitting a few gauges as the temp gauge currently over reads by 20 degrees, rev counter does not work, no boost gauge currently
well had a good few days on the ka, the main aim was to get the car rolling in a straigh line!
a new rear beam was ordered and promptly delivered, myself and will started by emoving the old beam and you can see jus how bent it was
the rear shoes and rear brake cylinders were not much good on the salvage beam so i swapped them over from the bent beam this has not long had a rear brake overhaul whihc was handy
the rear beam was attached and the rear shoes were torqd down
back on 4 wheels and its straight 8)
another picture showing it all in line
then it was time for a test drive, and to say i was dissapointed was an understatement, it wouldnt rev as it came on boost it would misfire, we both thought t was due to lack of fuel as the light was on, so we went to petrol station and filled a jerry an , second time still the same, so i drove it to the garage to try a set of new plugs and leads from my silver ka (genuine ford leads and cosworth 071c spark plugs) this istantly cured the misfire and it was able to run boost, 1 mile up the road however the battery light came on and it appeared that the alternator has failed
but this will be replaced tomorrow, also there was no coolant in the system only water so that was drained and filled up with coolant!
how ever despite the set back it went extremly well, couldnt give it full throttle but when i did try to get some power down it was very very quick indeed!
i ve ordered some beiges for it and it'll be going for a set up very son and we can see what its making
over all im over the moon, bodwork next jus waiting for the racing arches to arrive
i ve been busy with the ka last few days, first thing was to give it an oil and filter change as its jus clocked up 1300 miles on the new engine, and im not shore when it was last changed, i also washed it
also another thing that annoyed me about the ka was no boost gauge, i also fitted a new coolant temp gauge i can now see what its boosting and the engine temp whihc does help a little
also i ve chnaged some hoses on the car to silicones as i noticed the std rubber ones had perrished and would collapse under load, i had a few hoses from when my silver ka was a 1600 it came in handy
also gave the engine a clean the chrome came up well
and a little video
enjoy

it was rolling roaded in 2004 at a suspect 187bhp 202 ft lbs (on std injectors and 165 chip) after it was run up on the 165 set up the run was aborted as it was lean at 4,000rpm , so beige injectors were fitted, a custom msd chip and 14psi later and it made a solid figure!
having not long picked up the ka, what a transformation the car is brilliant! top work steve and james at for-tunepve in somerset, this is a credit to stu and kenny at msd the car now idles better and drives superb much much better than the old 165 superchip
result was 177bhp 204 ft lbs 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

the way that cross over goes it clever
i'd change the rocker car personally to a standard cvh 1.4 or xr2 one or a 1.8 cvh one they always look funky rs16i ones are to hard to fit IMO
