My 3 door underbonnet resto
Well doing a bit of work on my cossy so thought id post a thread.
This is my first cosworth and my pride and joy. She aint mint but hey!
Its only running a standard spec engine, but its got koni's,-25mm springs and grooved/drilled disks alround. I think thats about it. Although it used to have a descent spec mountune engine years ago so i'm told.
I bought it about august last year and ran it for about a month before i wanted to give it a tidy up so took it off the road (insurance wasnt so cheap either.lol)
It was ticking like a bomb so decided so got some new followers, and ordered a few other goodies since it was going off the road such as gpA gasket, Coil, engine sensors etc.
Well when i took off the head i thought id take off another couple of bits like header tank etc. and paint the inner wings after seeing a thread on here. But one thing led to another and i was left with a completely bare engine bay
Lucky i did because turns out a previous owner found a hole round the strut turret and decided to just fibre glass it
So ended up chopping a plate out of another sierra and got it all welded up properly. job done. Found a couple of small holes on the inner wings that had been botched too so had to sort them aswell.
Thats my progress so far anyway. Currently offshore thnow so dying to get home and crack on. Last month mostly consisted of trying (hard) to get my van running and MOT'd. £400,1 engine,2 heads later job done.lol So didnt even touch my poor sierra.
Anyway progress so far(excuse picture quality, was using my phone)::::
To add to my worries it turns out one of the camshaft journals is really badly scored (exhaust side furthest back i think) and look what happened when i took of the thermostat housing
Sheared bolts, lovely arent they.
Next to do is get under bonnet prepped and then get painting. Then slowly build it back up. all going well(highly unlikely in my case)
well comments,opinions,tips, help very welcome.
Cheers

i did an under bonnet resto on my 3dr over the winter i got a bit carried away.
Best of luck, and i also had the odd curve ball thrown at me with sheered bolts and the joy of fitting custom parts.

Welcome to PF, did similar a few years ago and now doing it again
Dont know what it is and why i would expect something to be straightforward but there is ALWAYS some random thing that goes wrong with bolts/helicoiling or random parts required!
Good luck with it though
