Saff 4x4 to 24V 2wd
I got a Granada 24V to break for spare parts for my other 24V Sierra track toy. But i ended up with more spares than i needed. So I found a Sierra to put the leftovers into.
Had a look on Ebay and found a 1991 Saff 4x4 Ghia in Black. From the discription it had not been run for over 2 years due to a fuel leak and looked to be in good condition.
Well i won the auction and picked it up. It looked ok but was jammed with cobwebs and crap in the door shuts and engine bay.
Anyway got the car home sorted the fuel leak and it started first go, pitty the engine is going in the bin 8)
So time to strip it down. This is when things get not so good and have slowed progress down.
The Ford RS Kit sill covers were hiding the big problem RUST. Both sills and some of the inners needed to be repaired :'(
Out with the tools and on with the pics
Car as i got it
and at home
Now the bad bits. It looked ok but needed a good clean down
Then off with the kit :'(
And out with the grinder
Then repairs, paint and filler still to be done
I though this was the only bit to do when i first got the car, nearside arch
And repaired
So on to the boot floor to rust proof and underseal and get the Granada 24V rear end fitted next week. :th:

At last the rear is coming together. But due to time, money and not finding the hub nut socket. i didn't get to have the arms and beam power coated so they only got cleaned and put in.
Beam bushes were in very good condition with no splits and the arms had the cosworth type bearing bushes in. They were also in good condition.
All the rear floor and arch area were rust treated and waxoiled. Its a mucky job doing that.
7 1/2" Beam cleaned. Had to cut off some odd brackets from the inner arm mounts??
Waxoil
Rear beam fitted.
The difference between the Scorpio 24v(left) and the Sierra(right), didn't check before painting :smt013
Brakes still to remove. 5 stud hubs :th: just for the Merc alloys.

More done, almost to the engine end of the car.
All the rear finished apart from fitting a new handbrake cable.
Rear anti-rollbars. I had an XR4x4 one to go back on, but after a check with the tape and info from here i found a few better ones.
The XR4x4 is 16mm. Granada Cossie is 18mm and my free one is 21mm. So 21mm got fitted.
Granada 24V top 18mm and 21mm bottom
Seats got removed and carpet cleaned a bit, Ever seen a 2 1/2 year old Smartie
Out with the old
Clean up
In with the Dark Grey trim

Any updates on this very promising project? I like the idea of 24V Ghia 4x4 Sapph very much. It will be a proper sleeper when finished, of course when the the exterior stays untouched (I hope that's the case). Fingers crossed and can't wait to see it finished.

Saff 4x4. Now getting a Zetec
Plans changed and lost interest in the 24V so it got sold. Mostly due to the gear box taking so long to get modded to V6 form.
Right 24V gone, So left with a Saff 4x4 Dohc minus engine as i sold the Dohc too
I steps a 2.0 Zetec that was going into my mk2 escort.
Parts so far :
2.0 Zetec mondeo silver top.
Rs2000 mk5 ECU and sensors
Dohc Sierra engine loom
Dohc 2wd mt75
Plan is to mod the Dohc loom to the RS2000 ecu and run the Zetec on that. This will also allow the zetec to be fitted with some efi bike throttle bodies, although not yet.
But first the drivers door needed to be changed. When i got the saff the door top had been bent out, must have been broken into at some point. This had allowed water to fill the floor and rot out the sill. So the need for all the repairs above. After a ebay hunt i found a cheap black door, so no need to paint it Although the cars paintwork has suffered from 2 more years out in the weather it feels like sandpaper, but it does clean up with a bit of work.
Door fitted, trim bits to change and on to getting the engine in next
