Default 280 Brooklands Capri 24v Cosworth Xpack Restoration/Project

On the 10th of December i dropped my E reg 280 Brooklands to Phil at Surface Processing Limited in Dudley West Midlands to be acid dipped and electro primmed after waiting nearly 8 months from first booking it in as they are so busy, but looking at the results i now know why.
My E reg had covered 60k and was clean looking but had just started to get scabby front wings by the lights and on one of the rear arches, ive got a low mileage d reg 280 and ive always fancied doing something special with one so the e reg drew the short straw!

The shell was stripped bare and was taken up there with a new genuine ford bonnet, front panel, slam panel that i had been saving for such a job.
The bonnet had been louvered by cool louvers so i wanted it to have the same anti rust treatment.

Pics of the shell today at collection.

i was expecting some horror story on the floor pans but there was only 2 little holes......well chuffed.

The only horror that has been found was in the rear wheel arches on both sides rust had got in under the underseal and was hidden and there was no sign of rust or anything, but now the underseal removed and the acid eaten the rust it just shows what lurks underneath out of sight!!!!.......

and the usual scuttle panel rot around the windscreen

it was 695+vat for the acid dip which eats everything away including the rust and just leaves clean bare metal, and then it was Ł795 + vat for the electro primmer which stops the rust comming back.
there was 3 mk1 escorts up there today and 2 mk2's sat there waiting for the same treatment.....nice
its well worth the money if your serious about keeping the car for a long time.

hello mate, it cost Ł1,810 for the shell and all the panels (bonnet, doors, tail gate, petrol tank, and a few other panels) to be acid dipped and electro primed.
it really is like a brand new shell........
