Default Mk2 zetec fiesta now mk1 st170 6 speed.......turbo?

It's been a while in the making now. The car came off the road in september when I bought a mk1 fiesta as a runaround.

Here it is as I bought it

25k and 2 engines later here it is. Poly bushed front end, spax psx kit, xr2 front brakes, adjustable rear panhard rod, recaros and cossie front wheels(couldn't afford to get the rear arches rolled and low profile tyres at the time)

Here she is with the mk1 in front(that is also lowered with pots now)

Size: 70.7 KB

I got her into my newly rented garage in november

Name: Photo-1047.jpg
Views: 383
Size: 44.3 KB

I stripped her down and seam welded the shell(I didn't do that as I can't weld yet and don't have a welder

Size: 81.2 KB

Rubbed down and some primer

Name: Photo-0027.jpg
Views: 375
Size: 41.5 KB

Then a few coats of silver and some laquer. It's not really shiny, it was rattle cans after all but it looks a lot cleaner than when i got the car

Then last saturday

An unsuspecting mk2

130 spec zetec, rst black diamond clutch and s2 gearbox

Where it is at the moment

Name: Photo-0057.jpg
Views: 353
Size: 50.5 KB

I was going to fit the new tank pump and fuel lines this saturday but it looks like this is being put on hold as i'm skint and have got to work for a friend. I'm at uni during the week so it's hard to get time to do anything.

It will be stripped out for the moment until I get a decent interior.

I've got some cossie 4x4 brakes, a modified servo bracket to run a mondeo servo and master cylinder to go on.

This is what it will look like when it's out of the garage.

Thoughts, opinions, comments etc are all welcome.

I hope so.

I I had a 2 litre mondeo as a first car. cained the shit out of it for 40k (sold it at 126k). It had no water in it at times and found out I'd been driving with no oil in it due to a fucked sump plug, and all it did was start frist time and drive perfectly lol.

Lets hope a car I actually care about will be ok.

Those rims look absolutely mint on the Fiesta. I love it when arches covers a little bit the wheels...

Keep the good work going on

I'm after some fiesta mk3 zetec water hoses(the rs1800 or xr2i/si).
The ones from the rad to car and expansion tank, so I can get the best match of cvh/zetec hoses to fit the car correctly.

My aim is to get this looking as factory as possible bar possibly a 4 branch manifold in the future.

Hoping to get the tank in the car, along with new 8mm return at the very minimum this weekend, and if I get some hoses, the rad mounted in place as well. The plan is to have her wired up and running by march. Then mot in April and get to F.I.T.P

At a later date I intend to drop a focus rs lump in, maybe into my mk1 instead but for now with fuel prices as they are I something quite frugal.

So far engine is in, fuelling sorted(tank, new return line and rs pump put in)

Im taking all the front suspension off, fitting the escort cosworth brakes and mondeo master cylinder+servo this weekend with luck and spraying the tie bars and wishbones and they have overspray on them.I've got all my spacers and tyres now, getting a stud and nut kit today so hopefully the shell should be rolling in 2weeks, almost completed.

Dashboard is nice and black not the manky grey as standard.

The engine runs by the way lol, I did test that before i duly whipped the inlet off so I can make the front brake lines up.

It's not a big budget car as I can't do anything like that until after uni but it should be a bit of fun none the less, easy and cheap to repair if/when it breaks.

Mondeo servo is huge in comparison to the puny xr2 one. Also a 25mm master cylinder too.

I won this rs option mk2 front splitter off ebay which will be fitted when the bodywork is done

I've managed to mount the ecu in the car under the heater matrix so it will(hopefully be( nice and dry.

I will put another update in next week hopefully with some better pics and progress

Well it drives, took it for a spin on a private road and pulled ok but im not overally pleased with the way it drives. its not a patch on my mates 2 litre corsa which is pants

The alternator hits the crossmember when i jerk with the clutch and the fins squeal against it when i nail it.. possible engine mount?

The gearbox well, when its not engine breaking its quiet. ie under load, otherwise it makes a groaning noise.....bolloxed???

otherwise, it needs my new temp guage wired up and the dash all put back in for the mot.

Also the bloody fuel guage doesnt work!!!

I recommend cossie brakes and the mondeo servo and master cylinder conversion a guy on xrtwo.com is a bit in the know about. They are awesomly powerful and fading hasnt been an issue as of yet.

Pics will be up soon if anyones interested. Body needs a bit of work and the cossie wheels could do with a polish and clean.

I got it running july 30th, mot'd taxd and insured.

Took it to usc, ford fair, and have given it a beasting for the last 3.5k miles up until 2 weekends ago when the headgasket let go.

Picked a 2 litre up this week, and was going to fit an ib5 rear starter box to it with my rs lsd so i had enough clearance for my st170 manifold and a much less restrictive exhaust.

Since funds are tight im just going to dump the 2 litre in there, and drive gently till i get a 2 litre ecu and the new box allowing space for the mani etc. currently mine is whining like nothing else but should last a few weeks till i can afford a box.

Also got a rear polybush set and anti roll bar to fit, which should make the rear end a bit nicer.

I ended up stripping the 2 litre I got after I found out it was seized, and put it back together with new gaskets.
I snapped a gearbox mount and had to put an old shitty one back in for the time being
I got an ib5 rear starter box today which im going to try and put my rs lsd diff in, as the current 1.4 box is screaming constantly and it will give more room for the st170 manifold.
A mate is also going to help with making my st170 manifold fit and mate it to a nice 2.25 inch system fairly soon.
O and getting an interior back in it soon, as its just too noisy and unrefined for the amount of miles I do.
And, after a 2 litre ecu and injectors its pretty much done so i can concentrate on mk1.

Just replace the engine mounts, do a bit of the bodywork maybe, fit my rear polybushes and anti roll bar and get new top mounts and shocks+ springs as current ones are tired and not really up to the job.

That car is the nuts mate

How easy did the engine fit? Did you have to modify the chassis rails at all?

Cheers dude, someone crashed into it last sunday so bonnet and wing are slightly bent and the replacment bumper i got isnt great at all. Hopefully will smarten thebodywork up after uni, but I really want to crack on with my mk1

Engine is a sinch to get in, just mod the engine mount however mine hits the inlet manifold on acceleration and deceleration a fair bit.

Its a mondeo mk2 servo and master cylinder, xr2wishitwerehere makes the brackets(he is on xrtwo.com)

2 litre is all back together and in the car now. currently on 130 spec ecu and injectors. got 2 litre ones and hoping to get a 2 litre ecu soon. Gearbox should be done in a fortnight. Then a mate will modifiy my st170 manifold and make system up early january, hopefully will be around the 140bhp mark then and a bit nippyer.

This is now due to be scrapped after a little incident with a kerb bending the crossmember and kinking the roof.
The engine and st170 gearbox are going into my mk1 shell hopefully to all be running by ford fair.
Bike carbs and megajolt will be order of the day for induction, with some gaz suspension, eccentric topmounts and a few other goodies

will get some updates picture wise in a few weekends with luck.

Got some gsxr carbs through in the post last week, as well as a scorpion exhaust. Got a fuel pump this week and have managed to reserve an st170 lump to fit. that will be done after my exams so I will have lots to do over the summer and get it properly ready for 2010.
Does anyone know of a guide to jetting the carbs for the car. ive heard you can drill them out to 1.8mm but is this the best way?

The lovely head, might send it off for a bit of a polish up too.

I picked up an exhaust vernier for it and a Safety devices half cage should be in my shed next week, getting that off a mate i've been pestering for 8 months to let me have it.

Probably not going to use the bike carbs and get some jenvey throttle bodies and management. jury is out on that one at the moment but emerald is looking like the best bet atm
