TURBO conversion
Let the fun begin
Well folks the fiesta is now declared as SORN so I put her in the garage on monday there. not really done anything as yet but I will hopefully get the old XR2i engine out before X-mas, then spend some time cleaning the engine bay out.
I have sent a few things of to be powder coated, rocker cover, charge carier, inlet manifold, map sensor plate, suspension tops and the bonnet stay. Think I will send more when the engine is out.
I am unsure what to do body wise, keep the original bumpers and smoth the swage lines in, or go for the cossie front with smoth tailgate and a Z-Tech S rear bumper also smothed in.
Car tucked up in the garage
The TURBO engine
Gona take the bonnet of and the front bumper through the week, and get the engine painted up ready to drop in.
Had to stay home on the 4th of december.
I have had to stay in today as the nice mail man is bringing my new bonnet today
So this is what I have been up to with the car.
I decided to go and mess about with the car, I removed the rear wiper arm and motor to find the dreaded rust eating away at the tailgate.
I then thought whats behind the number plate, again the dreaded rust.
So I got to work on it, I used a screw driver to remove the surface rust and bubbling paint, then I was in there with rough sand paper to finnish it off I rubed it down with a damp cloth. I then used some KRUST on all the rusty bits.
It said to leave it for 15 mins but i'm gona leave it untill tomorrow.
Think I am just gonna weld a plate in the back and smothe it over, the dam thing didnt work anyway.
25th December
Ok guys I have recieved a few parts for the conversion over the past few weeks.
I recieved the OFAC ECU + loom + map sensor from bakewell
also got the MSD 195 chip + oil hoses for the T3 conversion from Farooq
and sent a few parts of for powdercoating, again Farooq took care of this for me. Big cheers to him.
Over the next few days I plan on making a start on taking of the bonnet, front bumper and removing as much as poss to make things as easy as I can for taking out the old engine.
will keep things posted up here.
26th December
Been working on the car this afternoon and got a few things done
1st thing I done was remove the Bonnet, Bumper and lights from the front of the car.
Then removed the battery.
I then drained all the water from the engine and removed the radiator.
Last job of the evening was to remove the air box and header tank.
I think the battery tray might do with being replaced, and the rest of the engine bay looks ok so will gave it a good clean up before the TURBO lump goes in. :Q :Q
I will be back at it in the morning so watch this space for another up-date on the progress tomorrow night. Things are coming along. I cant wait to get the turbo unit in and start putting it all together.
27th December
Been back at it today, made some more progress on removing all water hoses and sensor plugs to the engine, also removed the acelerator cable and clutch cable. I then got the car in the air and rested on some axle stands and removed the front wheels, I then remove the passenger side suspension and drive shaft along with the inner wing (plastic thing) the only down side is that I found a bit of a hole and a fair bit of rust Not to worry this will be taken care of
Now here are some pics of todays progress.
Parts removed from the engine over the past 2 days.
Car on the axle stands + fornt wheels removed.
Passenger side suspension and driveshaft.
The inside of the passenger wheel arch, as you can see there is that hole and a fair bit of rust.
Thats it for the today, will be removing drivers side tomorrow and disconecting the gear linkage.
28th December
I was back at it this morning, took of the drivers side suspension and drive shaft, then removed the inner wing and, well have a look
and I thought the passenger side was bad
I got stuck in to the both sides with the angle grinder to see how far back it went under the paint work, Oh and nearly lost a finger in the process looks like there is gona be a fair bit of choping and welding before I get the TURBO unit in, Might replace the front wings and front pannel while i'm at it.
Does any one know where to get the glue stuff that ford used to stick all the pannels together : and how much it costs :

As you can tell I've not been near the car for a few days now, as it pi$$ed me of a bit due to the damage done by the rust to the front chasy legs Not to worry now though as I have sourced another fiesta that is solid, so will be collecting that soon.
Any way I was at it again this morning taking the engine out as I will be using some parts from the XR2i engine to sort out the FRST unit. So now I got a car with no heart in it and 2 engines lying in the garage
Here are some pics of todays adventures.
Had to suport the engine as I disconected it from the car.
Lowered the engine to the ground.
Had to hoist the whole car up to clear the engine.
Finaly moved the engine out the way.
Lowered the car back on to axle stands.
Empty engine bay.
The 2i engine's out.
Thats all for now guys, atleast untill I get the new car over to my place and do it all again There will be plenty of parts up for grabs soon so keep an eye on the parts for sale section in the next 5-6 weeks.
Thanks for looking guys.

Great work mate
looks like youve kinda crushed the lower front panel up a bit when you lifted the body over the engine mind you!
sure it'll straighten out easy enough
