Default FLAT PAINT

have recently bought a Mk3 Xr2i in white, I believed that the paint work was either resprayed badly or primed!! but after applying a lot of elbow grease & alot of Tcut it apears the paint work is original but flat.
Question is, I believe you can get cutting compounds such as G^ G8 G3 etc, can some one please advise & let me know where I can purchase body repair products at a sensible price (not Halfords)

Thanks in advance

Mike

car bodys are usually 1mm for most panels, with the structural parts like chassis rails etc being thicker which varies i think. the tailgate will be 1mm thick, folded at the edges.
